Bengaluru, May 13th, 2014: Strengthening its endeavour to be the most desirable premium fitness brand in the country, Reebok India concluded the first-ever community run, the ‘Race the City’ challenge, in Bengaluru today. Integrated with the launch of Reebok’s running mobile application, the ‘Race the City’ challenge provided running enthusiasts a platform to run with those who share a passion for fitness.

Covering eight major Reebok Fit Hub stores in Bangalore, the fitness race witnessed an overwhelming response from over 513 runners. All runners came to support their respective hero – seven men and one woman, who were selected through an intensive fitness test conducted at CrossFit 12th Main powered by Reebok. Entries came in huge numbers and witnessed people coming from different walks of life, including avid marathoners, sprinters, gym instructors, college goers and corporates executives.

Being a unique concept, the ‘Race the City’ challenge saw the chosen heroes and their followers reporting at the start-line on a Sunday morning at 5:00 am. The small communities created by each hero sprinted across the whole city for the fun yet intense relay race starting from Jayanagar Reebok Fit Hub store and ending at Koramangala Indoor stadium where the expo took place.

The ‘Race the City’ challenge introduced Bangaloreans to Reebok’s running application – Race the City, that has been conceptualized and developed in India especially for running enthusiasts. All participants tracked their running performance on the ‘Reebok Race the City’ fitness application and earned ‘Ignite’ rewards that can be redeemed from any Reebok store in India. The app served as the baton in the fitness race which recorded the time and total number of kilometres covered by each team.

Sharing his excitement at the event, Mr. Somdeb Basu, Brand Director at Reebok India said, “Being a fitness enthusiast myself, I absolutely loved the excitement amongst all runners at the run. This community run aims to inspire more and more people to take up fitness as a bigger part of their lives and adopt the philosophy of being ‘Fit for Life’. The fitness race served as the perfect platform for fitness enthusiasts to try out the app as their new running companion.”

After covering 6 kilometres with 125 followers, Salman Abbas was declared the winner of Race the City Challenge Bangalore 2014. The winner received Reebok merchandise worth Rs. 50,000 for one year.
