'Running for a change' initiative launched in Chennai

There has been a huge spurt in running over the last few years in India

An initiative called “Running for a change” was launched in Chennai on September 9 on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi in order to promote running as a catalyst for change in lifestyle, health and fitness, and for other social causes, reports India PR Wire.

Mr. M. Rajalingam, who is the founder of the initiative, said at the launch: “The main objective behind this initiative is to promote running and encourage more people to take up running as a part of their lifestyle. We will be forming running groups in Chennai to achieve this objective. We will also be working on the social cause, by organizing running events and marathons in Chennai in the upcoming future to raise awareness and funds for charities. Our other focus will be on developing marathon runners from Chennai”

‘Running for a Change’ is set to organise a series of programs related to improving fitness levels, yoga, cross-training programs, and lecture cum workshops which will be presided over by well-established personalities in those respective fields.

The programs will be held over weekends, so as to not inconvenience the majority of the public, who would find it hard to attend on weekdays.

The program is also planning to organise a few running events with a social cause attached to them. The first of them will be the “Chennai Pink Run”, an event to promote awareness on breast cancer in the month of October in the city.

‘Running for a Change’ is also keen to invite sponsors who would work with them and assist in the development of running as a practice across society.
