The annual edition of the Spirit of Wipro Run will be held across the globe tomorrow, September 22, 2013. This will be the 8th edition of the event.
The run will take place simultaneously in over 92 cities globally this year. A total of 50,408 runners have registered for the event. In India alone, the race will take place in 11 cities – Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Cochin, Kolkata, Delhi, Mysore, Mumbai, Pune, Hindupur and Bhubaneshwar.
Participants can take part in either of two categories available at the event – the Wipro category and the Open category. The Wipro category is an exclusive category reserved for Wipro employees while the Open category is meant for all friends, family and other guests that have been invited for the event.
The run was first started in July 2006 and it brings together Wipro’s run-loving community along with their family and friends. It is amongst the biggest employee engagement initiatives held, across 6 continents and 54 countries.
This year a half marathon is being introduced for the first time, but it will be held in only 3 cities – Pune, Hyderabad and New Jersey.
Also, the fastest runner of the Spirit of Wipro Run of 2013 in each city will receive an exclusively designed T-shirt from Puma, who are sponsoring the event.
The event was kicked off a few days ago with the winners of the 2012 race officially launching this year’s edition by carrying the Spirit of Wipro Run torch in a symbolic run across different campuses in the various cities.
