Thomas Bobby Philip might not be a household name in Indian sports, but his miraculous feat of running the entirety of the Boston Marathon barefoot has set social media on fire. The Indian entrepreneur ran the entire distance of 26.2 miles without a break.

Affectionately known as Bobby, he started barefoot running in 2012, after starting running marathons the year before. He said, “It was an incredible experience. My first marathon was the Standard Chartered Mumbai marathon in 2011, I completed that under 4 hours and have not looked back since.”

Thomas started running in 2010, when he used to accompany his daughter. However, he slowly progressed from the 250m to the 1km mark and then would go on to join the Nike Run club.

He looks up to Haile Gabriselasie and wishes to be like him one day. Thomas has attributed his success to consistency and discipline, also adding that every run should be enjoyed. He is also a part of a club called the running veterans.

Thomas also became the first Indian to achieve the feat of finishing the event barefoot.
