Turkey's Asli Cakir Alptekin celebrates

Ankara (Turkey) - The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has said that Turkish Olympic gold medallist Asli Cakir Alptekin was one of the eight athletes who tested positive for banned substances.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) had passed the issue to the Turkish Athletics Federation, calling on the authorities to punish the athlete, Xinhua reported Friday.

Cakir Alptekin, who won the 1,500 metres gold in the 2012 London Olympics, may face a lifetime ban if she is found to have tested positive.

Before that, she had been punished by a two-year doping ban starting in 2004.
