What's the story?

15-year-old National Shooting Championship winner, Anish Bhanwala proved his mettle yet again with his world record-breaking score at the Dr Karni Shooting Range on Tuesday. The youngster shot 37 to mark his place in the senior squad during the national trials.

In case you didn't know...

Anish Bhanwala, all of 15 and hailing from Haryana, shot to fame when he won his gold at the 25m rapid fire National Shooting Championship. With a record-breaking score of 579, he beat renowned olympian Gurpreet Singh's national record. He is one of the youngest competitors at junior events that are held mainly for shooters under 21. He was also the youngest shooter at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl and has 2 golds, 2 silvers, 1 bronze and a world record to his credit.

The heart of the matter

When many thought that Anish's stint at the National Shooting Championship was a one-off performance, he went ahead to prove them wrong with his performance on Tuesday. With a record-breaking score of 37, the 15-year-old won his second trial and confirmed a place for himself in the senior shooting squad.

Anish's 37 surpasses the 35 of Ricardo Mazzetti, an Italian shooter at the Beijing World Cup in 2014. However, according to the rules of the International Shooting Sports Federation, this score does not qualify as a world record due to the fact that it was not scored at a national event.

Scores registered only at the world and continental events can be regarded as world records. However, this does not dampen the spirits of the youngster who actually managed to break the existing world record.

What's next?

After his record-breaking score at the trials, it is yet to be seen how this youngster performs at the world events in the future.
