Commonwealth Games 2014: Gagan Narang wins silver in 50m Rifle Prone event

Gagan Narang added another Commonwealth Games medal to his illustrious career as he won silver in the 50m Rifle prone event at the Barry Buddon shooting centre. Gagan started off with a bang as he scored 10.7 off his first shot. He was in the lead after 6 shots with a score of 61.9 points.

Australian Warren Potent was always in the top three and took the lead after seven series of shots as the Indian was in second spot trailing by 0.9 points.

The Indian hung onto his second place as England’s Kenneth Parr bowed out after 16 shots with a score of 182 points to take bronze.

Warren showed no signs of letting go as he enjoyed a lead of 1.7 heading into the eighth series of shots. Gagan scored an impressive 10.8 off the 19th shot as the Australian posted a score of 10 on the board.

The difference was just 0.8 points heading into the final shot.. Gagan shot first and scored 10.5 to take his total to 203.6, but the Australian held his nerve to score 10.4 and took the gold.

Heartbreak for India, but a fine effort by Gagan nonetheless. Gagan has now won 9 gold medals in his Commonwealth Games career.

This is India’s 12th medal in shooting at the games.
