Commonwealth Games 2014: Jitu Rai wins gold and Gurpal Singh silver in 50m pistol event

Jitu Rai won his first Commonwealth Games medal as he dominated the proceedings in the 50m pistol final at the Barry Buddon shooting range.

The Lucknow lad had created the games record en route his qualification to the final with a score of 562 to his name. World No. 1 Jitu maintained a healthy lead throughout the final as his opponents failed to put up good scores on a consistent basis.

Gurpal Singh who was trailing during the early stages managed to crawl back up the leaderboard. 26-year old Jitu held his composure during the last few shots and romped home with 194.1 points.

Gurpal had to settle for silver after an impressive comeback with 187.2 points. Australia's Daniel Repacholi won bronze.

India now have 11 shooting medals at the games.
