India at CWG 2018 : Gagan Narang and Chain Singh to open up the day for India on Day 6

Day 6 at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018 will witness shooters Chain Singh and Gagan Narang competing for the last time in the Men's 50m Rifle Prone event, before it is officially removed from Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Gagan, who is competing only in this event, will aim to walk out with his head held high and not cut a sorry figure the way he had done at Rio Olympics. Chain Singh, on the other hand, will try to make a name for himself here before he competes further in his pet event: Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions.

The two will be quickly followed up by Heena Sidhu and Annu Raj Singh in the Women's 25m pistol event. Heena, who managed to clinch a silver behind shooting sensation Manu Bhaker, will aim to clinch a gold in this event, in the run-up to the upcoming ISSF World Cup and Jakarta Asian Games.

Next in competition is the Indian men's hockey team, who must win the match against Malaysia if they want to see themselves in the fray for their prime target - a historic gold medal. After securing an unimpressive draw against Pakistan and managing to barely scrape out a win against minnows Wales, India need to pull up its socks in time against Malaysia. If they win this match, even a loss against England in the final league match wouldn't matter at all.

Following the Indian hockey team would be para powerlifters Farman Basha and Ashok, competing in the Men's lightweight category. Farman, who's consistently missed the podium of Paralympics by a whisker since Beijing 2008, will aim to create a mark for himself in this event.

The powerlifters will be followed up by squash stars Dipika Pallikal Karthik and Joshna Chinappa, who shall be aiming to put behind their forgettable outings in the singles category by scoring big in the women's doubles. Dipika, who couldn't breach the Round of 16 barrier, and Joshna, who lost in the quarterfinals, will be competing against Faiza Zafar and Madina Zafar of Pakistan.

Following the duo is Vaishnavi Jagtap, a para swimmer who is competing in the Women's S8 Freestyle category.

Next up will be Ayyasamy Dharun, who’ll be competing in the Men's 400m hurdles category. Dharun, who had broken the national record for the same, will be looking forward to make his own mark in this event, and probably repeat the success that his sprinting counterparts, Mohammad Anas and Hima Das have just received.

Following Ayyasamy are shuttlers Ashwini Ponappa and S S Ranikreddy, who shall opening their mixed doubles account against Stuart Hardy and Chloe Le Tissier of Guernsey in the Round of 64. Following a successful outing in the mixed team event, the duo will aim to make their mark in the mixed doubles event.

Following the badminton duo is the duo of Saurav Ghosal and Dipika Pallikal Karthik, who are up in the squash mixed doubles event against Mary Fung-a-Fat and Jason Ray Khalil of Zambia in the group stage category. They will be followed by Vaishnavi Sutar, who is up against Stephanie Chan of Canada in the Women's Table Tennis para group of TT6-10 Singles group 2

Next up in challenge are the Indian boxers, who have 5 medals at stake this day. Opening the challenge is rookie boxer Amit Kumar Panghal, who is up against the defending champion Aqeel Ahmad in the Men's Light Flyweight [49 kg] category. He shall be followed up by Naman Tanwar, who is up against Sam Masoe of Samoa in the quarterfinals of the Men's Heavyweight [91 kg category]. The two will be followed up much later in the day by the following boxers in the following categories:

- Hussamuddin Mohammad [INDIA] vs. Everisto Mulenga [Zambia] [Men's Bantamweight (56 kg. category)]

- Manoj Kumar [INDIA] vs. Terry Nickolas [Australia] [Men's Welterweight (69 kg. category)]

- Satish Kumar [INDIA] vs. Nigel Paul [Trinidad & Tobago] [Men's Super Heavyweight (+91 kg. category)]

After the boxers come the para table tennis player Maitrayee Sarkar, who will compete against Australian paddler Melissa Tapper in the Group 1 of Women's TT6 -10 Singles category. She’ll be followed by powerlifter Sakina Khatun, who is competing in the Women's Lightweight section of the Para Powerlifting event.

Sakina will be followed up once again by Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghosal, who will further compete in the mixed doubles event against the duo of Tayyab Aslam and Madina Zafar of Pakistan in their group stage event.

The duo will be followed by the Indian women's hockey team, who have their acid test against the team of South Africa in the final match of Pool B. The Indian eves, who shocked Olympic champions England by 2-1, shall be aiming to repeat the feat against the South African team and qualify for the semifinals in style. Even if India manage to draw the match, they will still make the cut.

Next up is Sachin Chaudhary, who will be competing in the Men's Heavyweight category of the Para Powerlifting event. He’ll be followed by the squash players Joshna Chinappa and Harinder Pal Sandhu, who are up against Jacob Kelly and Caroline Laing of Cayman Islands in their group stage of the squash mixed doubles event.

The duo will be followed up by Hima Das, who is competing in the semifinals of Women's 400m event. The day shall possibly be brought to close by Mohammad Anas, provided he makes the cut for the finals of Men's 400 m.
