The latest gold medal to come India's way from the Shooting range came courtesy of Shreyasi Singh's efforts in the Women's Double Trap finals on Wednesday at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Singh shot consistently well in the finals but still needed a tie-breaker at the end as she found herself level with Emma Cox of Australia on 96 points. But in the breaker, Singh hit both her shots while Cox missed one to hand the gold medal to the Indian.

It was a significant moment for Singh after she fell just short and claimed silver four years in Glasgow in this very event. Varsha Varman, the other Indian shooter in the competition, finished 4th with a score of 86, narrowly missing out on bronze by just one point.

In the Men's Double Trap, both Indians made the final, but only Ankur Mittal finished with a medal as he claimed bronze. Ashab Mohammed finished 4th.

In the Men's 50m Pistol event, Jitu Rai couldn't replicate his efforts from the 10m event as he finished 8th and last and was the first man eliminated. Om Mitharval, however, provided some saving grace by claiming the bronze.

Mary Kom through to final

Boxer MC Mary Kom beat Sri Lanka's Anusha Kodithuwakku in the semifinals of the Women's 45-48kg event. She won by unanimous decision, 5:0 in her favour. In the gold medal bout, Mary Kom will face off against Kristina O'Hara of Northern Ireland. The final is on Saturday, April 14.

The other female boxers in action on Wednesday didn't have such a good time of it though. Sarita Devi went down to Anja Stridsman of Australia in her Women's 60kg quarterfinal. But while Devi's loss was convincing, Pinki Rani went down in a neck-and-neck contest in her Women's 51kg quarterfinal. It was a close bout between Rani and England's Lisa Whiteside with the judges ruling 3:2 in favour of the Englishwoman.

On the men's side, Gaurav Solanki (52kg), Manish Kaushik (60kg) and Vikas Krishan (75kg) all made it to the semis in their respective weight categories to be assured of a medal.

Sindhu, Saina, Srikanth and Prannoy progress

India's top shuttlers all made it through their opening rounds in the singles competition rather comfortably. Saina Nehwal beat South Africa's Elise De Villers in straight games losing just four points in the whole of the match. PV Sindhu also had an easy outing against Andrea Whiteside of Fiji. Ruthvika Gadde also won her match to progress.

Kidambi Srikanth beat Mauritius' Aatish Lubah 21-13 21-10 while HS Prannoy beat another Mauritian in Christopher Jean Paul 21-14 21-6 in his first match.

The mixed doubles team of Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwik Rankireddy also are through to the round of 16 after beating Jessica Pugh and Ben Lane of England 21-17 21-16. Siki Reddy and Pranav Chopra also won their match in straight sets to progress.

India clinch top spot

The Indian men's hockey team won a thrilling encounter against England 4-3 to seal top spot in Pool B. The two teams came into the match level on points and top spot in the Pool was at stake. In a back-and-forth contest, India emerged victorious.

England took the lead in the 17th minute, but India then hit back with goals in the third period and early minutes of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. England hit back almost immediately to make it 2-2 and then took the lead with just four minutes to go. But India scored twice in the final two minutes through Varun Kumar and Mandeep Singh in an absolutely chaotic finish to wrangle the match away from the English.

The win sees India take the top spot in Pool B and they will face New Zealand as a result in the semis.
