Heena Sidhu wins the gold in the 10m Air Pistol event at the Asian Shooting Championships

Heena Sidhu won the gold

It’s turning out to be good competition for the pistol shooters at the Asian Shooting Championships as after Jitu Rai clinched the silver a few days back, it was Heena Sidhu’s turn to stand on the podium. However, it wasn't a silver but a gold for her as she fired her way to the top of the podium in the 10m Air Pistol event in Kuwait on Friday.

The 26-year-old fired a final score of 198.2 after scoring a total of 382 in the qualification to finish ahead of the rest of the pack. This is Heena’s consecutive gold medal now, the first one coming at the Asian Airgun Championships in late September, where another Indian Shweta Singh won the silver medal.

This competition was going to be a significant one for the likes of Heena and a few others, but the decision to take off the quota places means that the gold perhaps wouldn't taste as sweet as it might had she booked a place for Rio 2016.

However, winning a gold is no mean feat and one can only hope with 5 more days remaining in the competition, more Indians perform well and win more medals.
