New Delhi, June 11 (IANS): India's pistol shooter Jitu Rai won the silver medal in the men's 10-metre air pistol event at the ISSF World Cup in Munich on Wednesday.

Rai, 27, shot 199.4 in the finals, after aggregating 583 in the qualification stage. His compatriot Prakash Nanjappa finished seventh after scoring 97.1 in the finals and 584 in the qualification, according to information received here.

The gold was clinched by Spain's Pablo Carrera with a score of 201.3 in the finals while Pavlo Korostylov of Ukraine bagged the bronze with 178.4 in the finals.

Rai, an Army shooter, is one of India’s medal hopes for the upcoming Commonwealth and Asian Games. He is coming off a strong 2013, a year in which he qualified for the World Cup final in the 50m free pistol event at Changwon, Korea. Rai is currently the top-ranked Indian in the 10m air pistol as well as the 50m free pistol categories.

This was India’s first medal in Munich, with Olympic bronze medallist Gagan Narang earlier failing to make it to the final stage.
