Over 1.2 billion people around the world play games. Several of them are playing games right now! Then how does a major percentage of games get labelled as ‘below average’ or just plain ‘average’, when in fact, these very games are much better than they are made out to be?Of course, our minds are going into reverse-gear, trying to remember those games and wonder if they are. in fact, as they have been made out to be. In no particular order, here is a list of the 12 most underrated games of all times.

#12 Stuntman: Ignition

Having a disappointing predecessor, Ignition is a blessing in disguise for the creators. This game allows the player to be in charge of every ramp jump and every stylish stunt there is. The gameplay has been altered a lot to better suit the tastes of the audience.

The tracks that the player takes aren’t as frightening as that of the predecessor. The directors are much more bearable and not so dominating.

#11 Starhawk

The successor to one of the first games to be launched on the PS3, Warhawk, Starhawk has kept Warhawk’s reputation and image intact. This game can have 32 players playing the game online, similar to Warhawk. It also lets players make their own bunkers and so on, even when the player is in the middle of a battle! Due to this feature, the game is classified as a real-time strategy game.

#10 Folklore

Folklore has been compared to Pokemon. Since Pokenmon has been such a successful game, everyone around the world wonders why Folklore didn’t become as popular, if not more. The design and gameplay of the game have been done up extremely beautifully and gracefully. The storyline is beyond comparison and is completely original: the character kills ‘beasties’ or ‘folks’ and takes their souls and uses them to strengthen his/her characteristics and abilities.

#9 Dungeon Siege 3

The closest thing to Diablo before the release of the next game in the series (Diablo III). Dungeon Seige 3 works on the same lines as Diablo does. The player is able to find hidden loot and weapons; there are caves, dungeons and ancient ruins that are to be explored. There is a large ability to sit back, relax and play this game with your bddies. The story line captivates the targeted audience, as does the graphics of the game.

#8 Condemned: Criminal Origins

This is a shooter game that involves a cop that is tied up in knots. He takes on drug addicts, murderers, CSI investigations and much more! When playing the game, the combat system is so brilliant that every single blow that is made by you or your opponent, can be felt. This game has everything, from extreme gore and horror, to a captivating story line.

#7 Child of Eden

A simple game for the very interesting X-box 360 Kinect gaming console. Child of Eden is a simple, yet fun game. The objective is easy to understand: just shoot the objects hovering around the screen that make music when shot at. This is done to make sure that a computer program doesn’t get invaded by a virus. It’s a win-win situation: destroy the hovering objects and dance to the music that they make upon destruction.

#6 Conan

Conan is equipped with Duke Nukem-level visuals, as well as dialogues. It’s main character is a Barbarian, who goes killing people. He kills the males by yanking their heads off, and he kills the females by pulling their hearts out. Conan has been compared to the likes of Devil May Cry and God of War, based on the combat in the game. The unique part of Conan is the fact that the fighting combinations are not mainstream.

#5 Dead Head Fred

Vicious Cycle Software has done a brilliant job when it comes to condensing and implementing all the wild ideas that every child has. A detective’s head has been stolen and he uses the help of his Guru (a mad scientist) to find it. However, on the way to finding and re-attaching his head, the detective goes toe-to-toe with a crime boss and multiple zombies. Of course, every hero deserves a break! This is where the detective plays the sax, raises mutant chickens and even plays pinball.

#4 Crush

Originally made for the PSP, Crush is a game that challenges the playr’s intellect. This game makes the player go through the inner workings and crevices of the mind of a man (named Danny). It seeks to understand and rectifiy Danny’s illness through various puzzles. It shows the players the smooth transition between 2D and 3D, which is a feature that hasn’t been seen before.

#3 Front Mission 4

The fact that Front Mission 4 hasn’t done very well when comapred to the previous ones, comes as a shock. Being able to find customisation options for the body of the warrior (called the wanzer) is extremely unique. Also, by having a multitude of weapons to chose from, one would have expected gamers to play this game at the drop of a hat.

#2 Alan Wake

This game revived the X-box 360 users from their usual slumber of FPS games. This game, such as the previous one, concentrates on the story, which allows the player to dive deeper into the game, which results in the pkayer being able to relate to his/her character. The way in which the graphics have been made not-so-gory should be applauded, as well. The critical part that makes any game good is the lighting at important moments during the game, that Remedy Entertainment has got bang on.

#1 Alpha Protocol

Released back in mid-2010, this game easily comes under the category of ‘underrated games’. Armed with a great story line, Alpha Protocol has emphasised the fact that even non-FPS games are the ones to be on the lookout for. Obsidian Entertainment has done a commendable job by paying close attention to detail, as well as to the characters and to the dialogues. Unlike most non-FPS games, Alpha Protocol has made the player feel directly connected to the happenings in the game.
