The National Games start in just four days from now and the whole nation is ready to witness Indian athletes in action. There are plenty of events in various sports that will keep the fans entertained over the 15 day period of the games. Here are few reasons why you should be excited about the games.

There are many young athletes who will be taking part in their first National games this year. It is an ideal platform for them to showcase their talent in front of millions of people and make a mark for themselves on the big stage. Good performances in the event could help these talented athletes find a place in the senior team and represent the country in international tournaments.

The selectors and coaches of various sporting disciplines will keep a keen eye on the performances of these youngsters. Don’t be surprised if a teenager causes an upset in any of the 33 sports that are being contested at the games.

All states and union territories of India are competing in the games. The newly roofed tennis facility at Trivandrum Tennis Club (TTC) and the renovated Water Works swimming pool were inaugurated by chief minister Oommen Chandy recently. The TTC has three synthetic courts with lights and a high roof which ensures players get ample chances to practise before their match.

Records are meant to be broken. Although setting a new record will not be the sole priority for athletes, they will be more than happy if their names get entrenched in history books with their incredible efforts. Young athletes will look to emulate sportspersons who were their inspiration growing up.

The likes of Saurav Ghosal, Joshana Chinappa, Harinder Singh Pal Sindhu have confirmed their presence for the games. Local favorite and one of India’s finest badminton players H.S Prannoy will be the man to beat in the men’s draw. P.C Thulasi, Aparna Balan and Malavika headline women’s draw and more players are likely to join them over the next few days.
