7 records created during FC Goa's 7-0 win against Mumbai City FC

The match at the Fatorda was the 100th in the Indian Super Leagu

FC Goas match against Mumbai City FC was one full of records and milestones, both for the players involved and the Indian Super League itself. The match saw the home team absolutely dominate the visitors and win 7-0.It was a complete team effort from the Goans while Mumbai completely capitulated in the face of incredible pressure from FC Goa.The result saw Goa solidify their position at the top of the table while Mumbais loss saw them remain in 6th position. Thanks to the heavy margin of defeat, there were many records and milestones set and heres a look at them:

#1 100th ISL match

The match at the Fatorda was the 100th in the Indian Super Leagu

The match between FC Goa and Mumbai City FC at the Fatorda Stadium was the 100th match in the history of the Indian Super League, counting right from the inaugural match of the 2014 ISL season.

FC Goa certainly made it a match to remember forever as they were very clinical in front of goal and played great football. Mumbai City were punished for their mistakes by the home team as they capitulated on the big stage in what was a very big occasion for the league.

The 100th match of the ISL definitely lived up to expectations and with the tournament looking all set to become a regular feature on the footballing calendar going forward, it keeps us optimistic that the interest levels in both partipation and fan following will increase.

#2 100th goal in ISL 2015

The goal that opened the scoring for FC Goa was also the 100th in the group stages this season

The 100th goal of the 2015 Indian Super League season was scored by Thongkhosiem Haokip when he bundled in the rebound after Dudu Omagbemi’s initial shot had been saved by Subrata Paul.

The lanky lad from Manipur put in a great shift throughout the night, fought for balls played in behind the defence, brought his teammates into play and when given the chance to score, made no mistake.

The fact that the 100th goal has already been scored talks about how attacking the league is now and how it has developed so much in the last one year.

A total of 121 goals were scored in the ISL in the group stages last season, and considering that 106 goals have been scored already, we should easily see last season’s tally surpassed by the time the group stage comes to an end.

#3 100th goal in both seasons scored by FC Goa players

FC Goa hold the unique record of having scored the 100th goal in both seasons

FC Goa seem to be making a habit of this as this is the 2nd year in a row that the Goan team have scored the 100th goal of the season.

Last year, Romeo Fernandes scored what was the 100th goal in the 2014 Indian Super League. It was scored against NorthEast United in a 1-1 draw. Although his team didn’t win the match, Romeo definitely would have great memories of scoring the 100th goal.

Haokip replicated Fernandes’achievment by scoring the 100th goal in this edition of the ISL. The striker netted a hat-trick in the match against Mumbai City FC, with the opening goal of the match being the 100th goal.

Proud owners of a very unique record, FC Goa have shown that they are not goal shy and will do whatever is necessary to continue their stay at the top of the table.

#4 Largest margin of victory in an ISL match

The 7-goal victory margin is the largest ever seen in the ISL

The lopsided nature of Goa’s win over Mumbai City was quite unexpected and ended up creating Indian Super League history. The margin of victory, 7 goals, was the largest ever witnessed in any ISL game and shows us how good Goa were on the day and how badly Mumbai played.

Although there were only 2 goals scored in the first half, the floodgates opened in the second half and almost every attack led to a goal for the hosts.

The previous highest margin of victory was 5 goals, ironically in a match involving Mumbai City FC again. The outfit from Mumbai thrashed their Maharashtra rivals FC Pune City 5-0 last season in what was a dominant performance at home.

#5 Most number of goals scored in an ISL match

7 is also the most number of total goals scored in a single ISL match

Another record broken during FC Goa’s rout of Mumbai City FC was one for the total number of goals scored in one match. The 7 goals seen in this match were the maximum in ISL history. There have been a couple of occasions when teams were involved in matches which saw a combined total of 6 goals being scored.

Though Goa had to work to take the lead in the first half, they showed that they had what was needed to seize the opening and show their intent. Zico's team is very well-drilled and they always look to play attacking football, which is exactly what they did.

Weirdly, Mumbai City have been part of each of these high-scoring matches. They lost 5-1 to Chennaiyin FC in season 1 of the ISL while they defeated NorthEast United 5-1 in season 2.

#6 2 hat-tricks in an ISL match for the first time

Dudu and Haokip both registered hat-tricks in the match

Though there have been 4 individual hat-tricks in ISL matches before this, this was the first time that we saw 2 hat-tricks being scored in the same match. What Haokip and Dudu achieved was quite unique and created a new record, something that was never before seen in the Indian Super League.

FC Goa had faced issues with their attack earlier in the season, as their strikers were not able to finish the chances created. They would definitely be hoping that after their hat-tricks against Mumbai, Haokip and Dudu would add to their striking options.

These hat-tricks were also the first ever for any player from FC Goa.

#7 Fastest hat-trick by a player on his first start

Dudu’s hat-trick for Goa came on his first start for the team

The experienced Nigerian striker joined the team from Goa recently and has made an instant impact. Dudu’s hat-trick against Mumbai City came on his first start for the Goan club.

He took his chances very well and showed no signs of rust, despite not having played a lot recently. Considering they were not really prolific going forward, Dudu's form would be very encouraging for coach Zico and would help him pick his team accordingly going forward.

Though the striker has previously played for FC Pune City in season 1 of the tournament, this was his first start for his new club and a player scoring a hat-trick in 25 minutes on his first start is something that wasn’t seen before in the Indian Super League.
