FIFA 16 is scheduled to release later this month and fans all around the world are eager to get their hands on the latest addition of one of gaming’s biggest franchises. To make the fans’ wait a little bit easier, creators EA Sports released a list of the player ratings for the newest edition. As you might have guessed, cover star and World Player of the Year winner, Lionel Messi sits at the top of the list, with a 94 overall rating. While only the top 50 player ratings have been officially released, there are a number of sites reporting the ratings of other players. If these rumours turn out to be true, Manchester United sees 9 players above a rating of 80, while the most talked about transfer on deadline day, Anthony Martial, will only have an overall rating of 77.The game takes into consideration the performances of players over the last year – some up and down from last year’s rating in accordance with their performances for club and country.

#10 Ashley Young - 80

Ashley Young

Nationality – England

FIFA 16 Rumoured Rating – 80

FIFA 15 Rating – 78

If there’s one player that deserves an increase in rating in the Manchester United line up for FIFA 16, it’s Ashley Young. After finding himself out of the first team, with the high possibility of being out of the reckoning completely, Young reinvented himself under Van Gaal playing as a left wing-back in the pre-season and the first-half of the 2014/15 season.

His improved form continued as he quickly became the first-choice left-winger for Manchester United, frustrating the best defenders in the league with his quick change of direction and ability to cross the ball in with both feet.

With the signing of Depay, Young again finds himself in a position when he needs to change his game, even playing on the right-wing on one occasion. However, he continues to give his best, even as he is brought on as a substitute in the final stages of the game.

#9 Marcos Rojo - 80

Marcos Rojo

Nationality – Argentina

FIFA 16 Rumoured Rating – 80

FIFA 15 Rating – 79

As Rojo spent the summer competing in Argentinian colours in the Copa America and later couldn’t travel to Manchester United’s pre-season to United States of America because of passport issues, he is not match-fit yet. Hence, he has not played a single game in the season so far.

Louis van Gaal and the Manchester United fans will be eager for Rojo to regain fitness and rejoin the first-team as soon as possible as the left-footed defender was the club’s best defender in his debut season – and should earn a couple of points in the ’16 edition of the FIFA franchise. Capable of playing in the centre and in the left-back position, Rojo has the strength to stop opposition strikers and the ability to bomb down the wing and contribute in attacking situations.

Whether the transfer of his countryman and friend Angel Di Maria has any impact on Rojo will be clear after his return to the side.

#8 Ander Herrera - 80

Ander Herrera

Nationality – Spain

FIFA 16 Rumoured Rating – 80

FIFA 15 Rating – 79

Herrera finds himself on the outside looking in at Manchester United at the start of the 2015/16 season with Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Michael Carrick ahead of him in the pecking order. Now, with Adnan Januzaj off to Borussia Dortmund on loan, Herrera could find himself playing in the hole between the midfield and Rooney up front.

He instantly became a crowd favourite in his first season at Old Trafford thanks to his determined and intelligent play on the field and his boyish looks. He was one of the success stories last season for Manchester United – scoring 6 goals and assisting 4 times in 19 starts for the club – which has led to an increase in his overall in FIFA 16.

If he can make the most of his opportunities and not stagnate when not given a chance, Herrera could become one of the most loved players at the club.

#7 Memphis Depay - 81

Nationality – Netherlands

FIFA 16 Rumoured Rating – 81

FIFA 15 Rating – 79

Another new signing for Manchester United and one of the more exciting players at the club, Memphis Depay had a breakthrough season for PSV Eindhoven last season scoring 22 goals in the 30 league matches. He was heavily rumoured to sign for United’s rivals, Liverpool, but his relationship with Manchester United’s dutch manager Louis van Gaal played a role in the 21-year-old signing for the club.

Explosive pace, trickery and an eye for goal, Memphis is the kind of player that can change the game with a single touch or shot. But he is let down by his defensive performance; not tracking back or helping out his defenders.

His performances so far for his new club have been good but he continues to look for his first goal or assist in the league – having scored twice in the UEFA Champions League qualifier a couple of weeks ago.

#6 Matteo Darmian - 79

Nationality – Italy

FIFA 16 Rumoured Rating – 79

FIFA 15 Rating – 74

The massive improvement in Darmian’s rating in FIFA 16 is very well deserved as he went from a young defender with potential to the first name on the team sheet for Torino in the previous season. He impressed fans and football greats alike and was also called up to the Italy World Cup squad.

One of Louis van Gaal’s most low-key signings in the summer transfer window, hardly anyone had linked Manchester United to the right-back before the signing was made official for a reported fee of about £13 million. After missing out on Nathaniel Clyne to Liverpool, the club needed to fill the right-back slot with a capable player and, if the first few games are any indication, Darmian fits right in.

Also capable of playing as a genuine wing-back, central defender or left-back, Darmian offers his manager a lot of versatility along with his quality.

#5 Morgan Schneiderlin - 81

Nationality – France

FIFA 16 Rumoured Rating – 81

FIFA 15 Rating – 79

Averaging 3.7 interceptions per game and 90% passing accuracy in the 2014/15 season, Morgan Schneiderlin joined Manchester United with a burgeoning reputation. As one of the most important players at Southampton in the previous season, both in terms of quality and presence on the field, Schneiderlin made the step up to Manchester United for a reported fee of £25 million. The increase in his FIFA 16 rating showcases the impressive season he had with his previous club.

A smart passer of the ball and a player who can break up opposition attacks before they become dangerous, Manchester United fans see the Frenchman as a long-term replacement for fan-favourite Michael Carrick.

With that said, Schneiderlin has already fit into Van Gaal’s side – playing alongside Carrick or Schweinsteiger in the centre of the park.

#4 Juan Mata - 84

Juan Mata

Nationality – Spain

FIFA 16 Rumoured Rating – 84

FIFA 15 Rating – 85

The drop in Mata’s overall rating shouldn’t bother Manchester United fans too much. The Spanish playmaker has been one of the key players for the 20-time league winners, and continues to be so in the 2015/16 season. However, his influence on games, in general, has reduced, which is one of the reasons the team has failed to score too many goals under Louis van Gaal.

The club will hope that the 27-year-old will add to the one goal and one assist he has after four league matches. His understanding with new first-choice right back Matteo Darmian has been impressive already and will continue to improve as the season progress.

However, in FIFA, his lack of pace and less than average physicality sees him losing 50-50 challenges, while his trickery and ability to change direction quickly are his strong points.

#3 Bastian Schweinsteiger - 86

Nationality – Germany

FIFA 16 Rating – 86

FIFA 15 Rating – 88

The fact that Schweinsteiger still has an overall rating of 86 after dropping down 2 points shows the quality of the player. At 31 years of age, the German maestro’s rating may reflect the decline of one of the Europe’s finest midfielders, as we saw his playing time reduced at Bayern Munich in the 2014/15 season, featuring only 20 times in the league.

Now with his new club, Manchester United fans have nothing to worry about because Schweinsteiger still has enough quality to play a role in the Manager Mode, and for Van Gaal in the Premier League, for at least a couple of seasons.

He finds himself as the 38th overall highest rated player in the game.

#2 Wayne Rooney - 86

Nationality – England

FIFA 16 Rating – 86

FIFA 15 Rating – 86

Over the past couple of seasons, Rooney has seen his role at the club change dramatically. Going from the leader of the attack, the England international has dropped back to the No.10 position and, last season, he has always played in the centre of midfield.

Rooney has begun 2015/16 season for Manchester United as a lead striker, but there is a lot of discontent amongst fans of the club about the lack of a world-class centre forward. Whether Rooney can recapture the form of old will be interesting to see, as the rating of 86 seems a little high based on current performances.

As only the 36th best player overall, Manchester United’s outfield players seemed to have fallen back in quality, according to EA Sports, as compared to the teams around them.

#1 David De Gea - 86

Nationality – Spain

FIFA 16 Rating – 86

FIFA 15 Rating – 85

The one point added to the Spanish goalkeeper’s FIFA 16 overall is as expected. But it could have easily been more as De Gea has been on par with some of the best goalkeepers in the world over the past couple of years.

After the initial period of uncertainty after joining Manchester United, De Gea has consistently performed for the club, winning and saving multiple games for the English club single-handedly. And last season, he helped the club finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League.

The transfer saga involving De Gea has still not been put to rest as both clubs continue to blame each other for crossing the deadline without the completion of the transfer. As the dust settles, De Gea is still Manchester United’s best goalkeeper but whether he will be played by Van Gaal or punished till he signs a new contract is yet to be seen.
