Mehrajuddin Wadoo
The man from Kashmir has enjoyed a new lease of life at the right-back position for Chennaiyan FC. He was brilliant in the game against FC Goa as he made some good runs ahead and was adept at preventing the opposition from scoring.
However, luck did not favour him. The referee awarded a penalty for handball by Wadoo and replays showed that the decision could have well gone the other way. The penalty was converted and that put the game to bed. However, credit needs to be given to the Kashmiri for his performance this week.
Andre Bikey
The big defender from NorthEast United occupies one of the centre-back positions in our Team of the Week. He put in a Man of the Match performance at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan against Atletico de Kolkata.
The Cameroonian was a rock at the heart of the defence and did not let anything get past him. Time and again, he sniffed out the danger and dealt with it in the most efficient manner. The team from the north east have always struggled at the back but if Bikey puts in such performances regularly, they will not have much to worry about.
Roger Johnson
Had it not been for the Englishman’s efforts, Pune might well have conceded four or five goals against Kerala. Johnson was brilliant at the back for the men from Pune.
Just before half-time in the game, hosts Kerala had a flurry of chances but were denied each time by Roger Johnson. He was the best Pune player on the pitch and that ensures his place in our Team of the Week.
Saumik Dey
The left-back has been consistent with his performances this season and the game against Pune was no different. In a game where the hosts had a record 32 shots on goal, majority of the crosses came from the left and they were largely due to Saumik Dey’s efforts.
He made some threatening runs ahead and linked up well with Sanchez Watt on a few occasions and truth be told, Pune were having difficulty in dealing with them.
