10 Best Call of Duty games

Best Call of Duty games

There are many first-person and third-person shooter games being released for all gaming consoles but none of them have even come closer to the legacy that has been continued by the Call Of Duty franchise. Many love it, some hate it and very few of us are left in between. Published and owned by Activision, the craze of this game has reached great heights over the years. Therefore, let’s take a look at 10 of the best games from this franchise which made all of this possible.

#10 Call Of Duty 3

Best Call of Duty games

This game was the worst edition of the COD franchise and, probably, the developers realized it with its conception. Therefore, it was never released for the PC platform.

Starting from no killcam, real radar or minimap to the lack of less scripted quick-time events, this game had a series of errors in its conception. And yes, the cherry on the cake was the fact that it was based on the same WW II storyline. Absolutely no change to it. BORING!!!

#9 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

The expectations of the Modern Warfare sub-franchise weighed down on this edition as it proved to be an extremely bad, if not the worst, game of the COD franchise as a whole.

There was no refinement to the product as the game left nothing to be remembered about, especially in the multiplayer mode which remained the same. A true drab of a game as it looked to outdo itself and fell flat on its back, consequently.

#8 Call of Duty: World At War

In brief, this game’s action is so random that there’s a possibility that a weaker opponent may defeat an experienced gamer over and over. Even the star power of Kiefer Sutherland in the game couldnt save it from becoming a disgrace to the franchise.

A design decision to allow hordes of dogs to kill a gamer’s enemies in multiplayer mode just explains one of the many faults that Treyarch had in making this game go back to the original WW II storyline when Modern Warfare II had worked like a charm for them.

#7 Call Of Duty

Best Call of Duty games

Just an year before this game was released, Medal of Honor: Frontline hit the gaming shelves for Playstation 2 and one couldn’t help but see COD as being a mere shadow to this game.

The emphasis on the soldier’s experience during WW II instead of the generic man’s experience in such situations grabbed the attention of many but MOH removed it with its gameplay. Though the subsequent editions of this franchise have improved much on the original, the direction of the original is still followed in COD games.

#6 Call of Duty: Black Ops II

This edition continued the Zombies mode with a similar addition of a multiplayer mode called Tranzit which provided some heavily intense survival moments. Also, it continued the Alex Mason storyline, including a focus on his son David in the year 2025.

The story also experienced different pathways for the gamers, giving potentially different endings to different gamers. Therefore, so many major facets rolled into one game bamboozled many gamers and hence this game couldn’t find its place much above the rest in the ranking charts.

#5 Call Of Duty 2

Best Call of Duty games

This followed the franchise’s tradition of continuing the World War II genre in a much more “respectful” manner compared to its rival game, Medal Of Honor, at a time when people were beginning to get saturated with such a storyline among games.

This game provided multiple angles of war to present some innovative missions revolving around the Soviet warfare. Along with the intense storyline, the gameplay was much more smoother and faster than the previous editions.

#4 Call of Duty: Ghosts

The storyline is based on an apocalypse which is caused by orbital weapons and, in this scenario, the gamer is a special force operative. Here, Latin Americans are trying to destroy USA while only Americans and their hordes of dogs can stop it from happening. Though the single player mode has been largely criticised in the game, as some have called it “boring” and “predictable, the multiplayer mode is quite interesting as it takes you back to gun fights by fighting down the Killstreaks.

Gamers argue that Call Of Duty doesn’t change its storyline much but Ghosts has been a pleasant surprise as it has proved that a few additions to the original recipe can bring about a huge change in the gamer’s perception.

#3 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Best Call of Duty games

Being the first Call Of Duty game to not be set in the World War II stage and, also, the first one to get a Mature rating, COD: Modern Warfare 2 has one of the toughest single-player campaigns. Even in its multiplayer mode, it is challenging enough with its Deathstreaks and a vast array of clan customisation to its name.

But the game is nostalgic for one particular mission – No Russian. Here, you can’t do anything other than watching the horror unfold between your eyes. All your guns are particularly useless in this mode. It’s a unique scenario in this franchise.

#2 Call of Duty: Black Ops

This is the game where the franchise geared up to concentrate equally on both the multiplayer and single-player aspects of the game. With some gruesome elements like putting a glass piece in the prisoner’s mouth and then punching him in the face, Black Ops is especially graphic in its experience making it fresh and risky.

The storyline following Alex Mason’s CIA missions is among the best in the franchise. Along with the highly-acclaimed Zombie mode and its intuitive multiplayer mode, this game is a sure-shot winner in this franchise.

#1 Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Best Call of Duty games

This was the first game in the franchise which was developed by Infinity Ward and it marvelled in its simplicity as it transitioned from “games about war” to “games about action heroes”. The multiplayer option enabled the gamer to achieve player progression and also involve several mid-term variables.

The subsequent release Medal Of Honor was comparatively criticized for its gameplay due to the lack of movie production values and the tense movie design it put across.
