Top 10 android games of the week

Android games seem to getting better and better these days with improved graphics and gameplay. Besides the usual PC games that have been re-released for android and rehashed versions of popular android games, we have some great original titles as well. The Holiday week brings some pretty unique titles alongside some classic PC games.Be sure to check out our last week’s list of Top 10 Android Games in case you missed it.

#10 Monster Dash

The android game list is never complete without a runner game. Monster Dash sees the return of Halfbrick Studios mascot Barry Steakfries. Monster Dash is a runner+shooter hybrid game that combines the shooting action from Age of Zombies with the running aspect of Jetpack Joyride.

The game has different stages with different themes and monsters as well as vehicles with give Steakfries a bit of protection and boosts. The game is available for free but does include in-app purchases which offer some extra loot, but nothing too game changing.

#9 SimCity BuildIt

SimCity is a city-building simulator by EA Games that did pretty well on the PC. A special Android version of the game is now available on the Play Market and it's completely free. Also, while the game does have in-app purchases, it is completely free of any ridiculous wait times or an annoying energy system seen in most free city building games these days. It also works offline.

The game is an update to the original SimCity where players will have to build and maintain their city while taking care of the cities population. It's some good old fashion city building fun with a no barriers free-to-play model.

#8 Hearthstone Heroes of Warcraft

Hearthstone Heroes of Warcraft is a game developed by Blizzard Entertainment and it's definitely worth getting if you’re a fan of card-based games or Warcraft. Players will get their first basic deck of cards after completing their first mission. And while the game is free, it does feature in-app purchases which include better decks.

So players can stick to their basic deck but can also purchase the better decks to get an advantage over their opponents. So while this does make the game a bit unbalanced, it’s still worth trying because it’s a lot of fun and completely free. Just prepare to shell out some cash if you want to be better than your opponents.

#7 Brother in Arms 3

Brother in Arms 3 is the third installment of the hit WWII first-person shooter series Brothers in Arms. Except this time, the game can be played in third person perspective, a big change from the previous titles in the series.

The graphics engine, as well as the gameplay, has been improved. Players will now have to be more tactful in their approach, hiding behind various objects while planning the best way to take out the enemies. The game is available for free in the Play Store and requires Android 4.0 or later to play. It also contains in-app purchases where players can buy better items and weapons.

#6 Impossible Draw

Impossible Draw is our puzzle pick for the week. It’s a unique game developed by isTom Games that scores points on originality. Players will have to draw shapes that help them see further down the tunnel, but they will have to do this quickly or they won’t have enough time in the next round.

The games mechanics are very interesting which rewards fast reflexes while the visuals are very simple and colourful and has some great music to back it up. Impossible Draw is available for free in the Play Store.

#5 80 Days

80 Days is a game based on the novel ‘Around the World in Eighty Days’ by Jules Verne. Developed by Inkle Ltd, the game set in the modern world unlike in the original novel. The game combines RPG and puzzle-solving elements where players will have to complete their journey in 80 days or less while competing against other players.

So fans of the novel should definitely give this one a try. It’s a very innovative and unique android game which is available for the Android 2.3 and later.

#4 EXILES

EXILES is a Sci-Fi 3D RPG title by Crescent Moon Games who are the same developers behind the award winning title Ravensword: Shadowlands. The game takes place on a distant alien planet where the government has enslaved the planets colonies using a virus.

Players will take on the role of an Elite Enforcer whose mission is to defeat the aliens and learn about their true intentions. The game looks pretty cool and players will not have to worry about any in-app purchases as well.

#3 Baldurs gate 2

Baldur’s Gate 2 is the second instalment in the Baldur’s Gate RPG series and it is now available for the Android 3.0 and later versions. The game released back in 2000 for the PC and has garnered a huge fan following since. Baldur’s Gate is about 14 years old now but seems to have aged gracefully.

Also, Baldur’s Gate 2 for android is an enhanced edition pack so it will contain the original vanilla game as well as all the expansions. So fans of the game should definitely give this one a try. It’s a classic RPG that offers more than 100 hours of gameplay and tons of quests and missions.

#2 GTA: Chinatown Wars

GTA: Chinatown Wars was a game that was originally released for the Nintendo DS and five years later it is now available for the Android. In Chinatown Wars, you play as the character Huang Lee whose father has been murdered by the Triads.

And now it’s your job to find and deliver a sword to your Uncle Kenny which will help him regain control of Liberty City’s Triad gangs and help you avenge your father. The game features comic like graphics and a top-down camera view with some good old gangster action.

#1 SXPD The Comicbook Game Hybrid

SXPD is a pretty cool looking game that mixes comic book-style black and white visuals with some retro first-person racing. It’s definitely the first of its kind on the mobile. In the game, you play as a member of an all-female police department that doles out justice on the back of a hyper-powered motorcycle.

Your character will also be armed with machine guns. None of this makes sense but at least it sounds and looks cool. Purchasing the complete version of this Comic/Game Hybrid will give you a full 42 page comic by artist Duke Mighten. Players can then jump into the action when the story demands it. It’s basically a comic book you can play!
