The Florida Gators struggled in their regular season finale as they were in a shootout against the Florida State Seminoles on the road and were defeated 45-38.

The Gators were able to move the football as they totaled 22 first downs while going 8-of-16 on third down tries and 1-of-3 on fourth down attempts throughout the game. Freshman running back Trevor Etienne had a big game as he finished with 17 carries for a season-high 129 yards (7.6 yards per attempts) and a rushing touchdowns.

The team also ran for 5.7 yards per attempt throughout the game. Defensively, they were awful as they allowed Florida State to go 9-of-16 on third down and 1-of-2 on fourth down tries. The Gators did force a turnover as they recovered a fumble, but they were unable to get stops on the ground and struggled to force field goals instead of touchdowns.

The Gators have been a great offense in terms of scoring as they are averaging 31.8 points on 441.2 total yards per game so far. They are going to need to figure out how to run as backup quarterback Jalen Kitna will start as he went 10-of-14 for 181 yards with a touchdown during the regular season. Defensively, they need to show some improvements as they are giving up 28.8 points on 415.8 total yards per game throughout the season.

Their best quality is the fact they are able to force takeaways as they finished the regular season with nine interceptions, 14 forced fumbles, and 13 fumble recoveries. The Gators also were able to return two interceptions to the house so they will need to do that to get some more points on the board against one of the best teams in the entire nation here.

The Oregon State Beavers were able to come out with a win to finish the regular season against the Oregon Ducks 38-34 last time they played. The Beavers needed to start off better as they won by scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter after being dominated throughout the first 45 minutes of the game.

They have to rely on the running game that was able to get them 6.2 yards per attempt behind freshman running back Damien Martinez’s 15 rushes for 103 yards. Defensively, they allowed 34 points, but were able to hold the Ducks to 0-for-5 on fourth down attempts throughout the game. Oregon State needs to be able to force some turnovers, as they did not in this game, if they want to win here as well.

The Oregon State Beavers have been one of the more dominant offensive programs in the sport as they are scoring 32.4 points on 399.6 total yards per game. They have been a completely balanced offense with their attack averaging less than a single yard difference per game with their passing and running attack.

Freshman quarterback Ben Gulbranson needs to take more control of the offense though, as he is 109-of-176 (61.9 percent) for 1,290 yards with eight touchdowns and five interceptions. Their secondary has been able to look like a group of wide receivers throughout the year as they have 12 total interceptions with a pair being returned to the house, as well as adding 56 pass deflections.

Florida Gators vs Oregon State Beavers: Prediction

It is tough for the Gators as they are the inferior team heading into this neutral site game, but also having Anthony Richardson skipping this game after already announcing he was entering the NFL Draft, so that makes things a lot more difficult for Florida.

This is their first ever matchup against one another so there is no prior history to judge from. The defenses have shown a huge difference as of late with the Gators allowing 38 points in their previous two games while the Beavers are giving up 17 points in their last three games.

Oregon State is going to limit the amount of rushing yards against them while Florida is giving up 176.2 rushing yards per game thus far. All in all, go with the Oregon State Beavers to cover the spread in this neutral site bowl game as they are the better program and it is not even close.

Final Prediction: Troy Trojans -8.5 (-105)
