Kansas Jayhawks vs. Baylor Bears Key Stats

The Jayhawks were red-hot at the start of the season, winning their first 5 games. A critical QB injury and poor defense have been the main stories while they're on a 2 game losing streak. The Bears are no stranger to disappointment as they were projected to be a Big 12 contender before falling to 3-3. For all of these reasons, this week is a must-win for both teams.

The Kansas Jayhawks lost their best weapon on offense 2 weeks ago; dual-threat QB Jalon Daniels. Despite losing their best player, the Kansas offense hasn't been the cause of their problems without him. Backup QB Jason Bean stepped up to the challenge and continued to stack up points since his first drive against TCU. Bean does lack the absolutely devastating dual-threat caliber play that Daniels has, but Bean has more of an explosive arm that opens up a deep threat against the secondaries. Last week, Bean put up 265 yards and 4 touchdowns in the air; Kansas scored 42 points. It's hard to complain about your backup QB when these are the numbers you get. On that note, their defense allowed a whopping 52 points to a banged-up Oklahoma offense. The defense ranks near the bottom in every metric and will be exposed against a Baylor offense who averages 37 PPG already.

The reigning Big 12 champion Baylor Bears have had their share of similar defensive issues this season, as the prior scores show. Much like Kansas, the week-to-week fate of Baylor rests on Blake Shapen and the offense. If the Bears can't set the game pace for scoring, they'll likely be playing from behind because the defense alone will not keep them in this game. If Shapen can't return after an injury last week, backup Kyron Drones has already proved he can fill the role. This may cause a shift in offensive focus to the ground-game, where Baylor RB Richard Reese could add to his 450 yards this season.

Regardless of who the starting quarterbacks are, this game has 2 versatile and dangerous offenses attacking two sub-par defenses. You can expect a lot of points and another classic Big 12 style final score.
