2016 South Asian Games: India continue their surge at the top of the standings

Omkar Singh won the Gold in the 10m Air Pistol event

It was yet another day of domination for India at the 2016 South Asian Games with the host extending their total medal tally and further strengthening their position at the top of the standings. The hosts rounded off the day with a tally of 156 Golds, 85 Silvers and 27 Bronze medals to end with 268 medals

Here’s how the day unfolded for the Indians:

Shooting

Omkar Singh fired his way to the 10m Air Pistol Gold with a score of 198.8 while Jitendra Vinbhute won the Bronze with a score of 175.1. The 50m 3 Position Rifle event saw the hosts take all 3 medals in the team event with Anjum Moudgil, Elizabeth Koshi and Lajja Gauswami combining brilliantly to a tally of 1726 and they also won the Gold, Silver and Bronze respectively in the Individual event.

Omkar also combined very well in the 10m Air Pistol event and along with Gurpreet Singh and Vibhute Jitendra won Gold with a score of 1735. The Women's 25m Pistol event also fetched India Golds in both Team and Individual event with Rahi Sarnobat, Anisa Sayyed and Annuraj Singh finishing in the Top 3 in the latter while the trio combining to fire 1741 to win Gold in the former.

Kabaddi

Both the Indian Men and Women Kabaddi teams won in the kabaddi event with the former beating Bangladesh 30-17 while the latter beating Pakistan 56-23 to progress through to the next round of the competition.

The Men’s team defeated Pakistan in a cracking encounter 9-8 later in the evening.The Women’s team also beat Bangladesh 43-11 in their second match of the day.

Football

The Indian U-23 Men’s football team entered the final after inflicting a 3-0 defeat over Bangladesh in the semifinals. Goals from Udhanta Singh, Jerry and Jayesh sealed the deal for the Indians as after a slightly tricky start to the campaign, they progressed through to the final.

The Indian eves had a much more easier route through to the summit clash as they decimated Bangladesh 5-1 in the semis.

Boxing

India got off to a good start in the boxing event as all 3 boxers Devendro Singh, Shiva Thapa and Vikas Krishan all registered victories in their opening bouts.

Triathlon

India won the Golds in both the Men’s and Woman’s Triathlon with Dilip Kumar winning in the former and Pallavi Retiwala winning in the latter. Guru Dutt won the Silver in the Men’s event while Pooja Chaurushi won Silver in the Women’s event.
