2016 South Asian Games: India win Gold in athletics and shooting but settle for silver in hockey

Day 7 of the South Asian Games didn't see a lot of events but it made little difference for India as they continued to win Golds in most of the events that they participated in, finishing the day with a total haul of 248 medals that included 146 Golds, 79 Silvers and 23 Bronze medals.

Here’s how the day unfolded:

Athletics

The final day of the athletics event saw India win the Gold medals in the sole event of the event- The marathon. Nitendra Rawat clinched the yellow medal in the Men’s marathon with a time of 2:15:38.

It was a much more significant day for Kavita Raut who not only won Gold but also booked a spot for Rio 2016 with a time of 2:30:38, beating the qualification mark of 2:42:00 by a considerable way.

Khetha Ram also won the bronze in the Men’s event with a timing of 2:21:14.

Shooting

Chain Singh clinched his second Gold of the South Asian Games after pipping Sovon Chowdhary of Bangladesh and Gagan Narang, with a score of 204.6. Singh and Narang along with Imran Hasan Khan also won the Gold in the team event with a score of 1863.4.

Neeraj Kumar won the Gold in the 25m air Pistol event with a score of 569. Gurpreet Singh clinched the Silver with a total of 566 while Mahender Singh won the bronze with a score of 563. The trio combined to win the Gold in the team event as well with a score of 1698.

Hockey

It was disappointment for India in the Gold medal match as,thanks to a goal in the 35th minute by Awais-Ur-Rehman to win the yellow medal in hockey.
