Sports has no barriers to where it can take you. You must have heard of Baseball, Football, Cricket because of their mainstream presence and public affection, there are plenty of other sports which aren't as familiar. These games are not the revenue making marketing strategy. These sports are inventive and considering the kind of creative thinking that must have gone through in thinking up these sports, they are worth a mention.

These sports are known for their imaginative thinking and the sheer brilliance that goes behind achieving the goals of the game.

Some of them are played at the International level where countries participate with their best player or teams to decide the ultimate champion. Let's look at some of these hilarious and creative games played at the international venue.

Some of these sports have existed since the early 1970's and 80's, while some others date back to the time prior than that. Some starting in the early 2000's gained a massive following in very less time. Thanks to social media. While some sports gained cult status, others happily made it to the International Level.


#1 - Chess Boxing

Chessboxing is an imaginative sport where chess and boxing happen simultaneously. It combines two different sports, a more physical Boxing and a cerebral board game, Chess. The competitors alternate between Chess and Boxing in 11 rounds to decide the winner ultimately. The first Chessboxing competition took place in Berlin, 2003. After receiving credit from FIDE in 2008, from where the Chessboxing community started growing at a rampant pace. In 2011, Chessboxing turned professional and took a worldwide turn. It is more common in India and other Asian countries. The sport, seen as a tradition in some villages is a common pass time for so many others.

There is a World Egg Throwing Federation. The WETF has prescribed to the rules of this game and states that people have enjoyed egg throwing since the enjoyment to watch somebody failing to catch an egg. There is World Egg Throwing Championship as well. This lovely sport draws on the failure to catch an egg as its mode for entertainment.

Egg tossing, egg toss, or egg throwing is a game associated with Easter. The egg was a symbol of the rebirth of the earth in Pagan celebrations of spring and was adopted by early Christians as a symbol of the rebirth of the man at Easter.

After Field Hockey and Ice Hockey, Underwater Hockey has existed since the early 1950's. It is also called Octopush. In this game, players have to push a puck using a stick on the floor of a swimming pool into opponent's goal post. The game has it's own World Championship.

Underwater Hockey is a globally played sports which ensure limited contact founded in the each team's bid to push the puck to the opponent's goal. The sport has its federation which governs the rules and guidelines of the game. It is not a spectator friendly game since not many pools have underwater viewing experience.

Sepak Takrow is Volleyball in its very nature, but the only catch is, everything can be used except the hands to pass the ball on the other side. This game is physical at it's very best and is fun to watch. Probably more than Volleyball itself. Sepak Takrow is expected to be played in the 2022 Olympics and can gain significant acclaim from there.

More importantly, the game is played with a ball made of dried palm leaves. In Malaysia, the game is called sepak raga/sepak takraw or takraw. A sport native to South East Asia is played extensively in countries like Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Laos.

How manly are you? This game known to have originated from early settlers in Europe has found its way in the niche audience In this fight of two, the first person who falls down on the ground after being hit on the shin, looses. This game in many ways than one has become the staple of manliness.

Shin kicking is also known as purring or hacking and often described as English martial arts. The game in its very sense is a combat sport where the player tried to put his opponent on the ground by kicking his shin. The first player to do so is the winner.
