20th Commonwealth Games - Day 3: Squash

The Indian contingent added six medals on Day 13 of the Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia. These six medals included two silver and four bronze.

Men's Team: Squash

Defending champion India settled for bronze in the Men's team event in Squash after losing 0-2 to Hong Kong in the semi-finals. The team comprised of Saurav Ghosal, Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu, Ramit Tandon and Mahesh Mangaonkar.

The Indian team never looked in the game against the bronze medalists from the last edition at Incheon, South Korea. Hong Kong will now play against Malaysia in the gold medal match.

Varsha Gautham and Sweta Shervegar won the silver medal in Sailing Skiff 49er FX Women. Varsha and Sweta combined to produce a total score of 40 after 15 races to finish second.

The gold medal was taken by Singapore’s Cecilia Low and Kimberly Lim Min while the bronze was claimed by Thailand’s Nichpa Waiwai and Kamonchanok Klahan.

Harshita Tomar: Sailing

Harshita Tomar won the bronze medal in Women's event of Open Laser 4.7. She aggregated 62 after 12 races to clinch the third position.

Kaman Shah Muhammad Fauzi of Malaysia claimed gold while China’s Wang Jianxiong won the silver.

Varun Thakkar Ashok, Chengappa Ganpathy Kelapanda: Sailing

Varun Thakkar Ashok and Chengappa Ganapathy Kelapanda won the bronze medal in the event of 49er Men. They finished with a score of 53 after 15 races to secure the third position.

Furuya Shingen and Hachiyama Shinji of Japan and Chae Bonjin and Kim Dongwook of Korea grabbed the gold and silver medals respectively.

Vikas Krishnan: Boxing

Pugilist Vikas Krishnan became the first Indian to bring home a medal for the country in Boxing this year. Vikas had to settle for bronze in the Men's Middle 75kg event category after he was declared unfit to play his semi-final bout against Kazakhstan’s Amankul Abilkhan.

However, after winning the medal, he became the first Indian boxer to win medals at three consecutive editions of Asian Games.

Women's Team: Hockey

Indian women settle for silver

The Indian Women's Hockey team had to settle for a silver medal after losing 1-2 against Japan in the final match.

The Indians started the match as favourites but end up losing in a penalty shootout and had to settle for the second spot on the podium.

India ended Day 13 at eighth position in the medal tally with 65 medals. These 65 medals include 13 gold, 23 silver and 29 bronze.
