India Squash Squad Asian Games 2023, comprising eight players from the country, will be in action in the Asian Games to be staged from September 23 to October 8 in Hangzhou, China.

Dipika Pallikal Karthik, who won two gold medals in the WSF World Doubles Championship last year, will lead the Indian team in the Asian Games. Dipika, who is married to veteran Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik since August 2015, is one of the contenders to win a medal for her country in the tournament.

Back in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, the 31-year-old star won the bronze medal. However, she has not taken part in singles since 2019. Dipika is all set to team up with Harinderpal Singh in the mixed doubles event. Back in June, Dipika and Harinderpal came up trumps in the India Squash Squad championship.

Saurav Ghoshal and Joshna Chinappa brought India medals from the Jakarta Asian Games. They will be looking to put in a similar show in the upcoming edition of the championship.

The squad also features Anahat Singh, who represented India at the age of 14 in the Commonwealth Games last year. She made a dream start in the women’s singles in Birmingham after beating Saint Vincent and Grenadines’ Jada Ross. Thereafter, she lost to then world no.19 Emily Whitlock in the Round of 32.

Abhay Singh, Mahesh Mangaonkar and Tanvi Khanna are the other Indian participants in the Asian Games 2023.

The squash events are scheduled to get underway on September 25 with the team events at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Squash Court. The mixed doubles and the singles will take place from October 1 to 5.

Back in 1998, squash was introduced in the Bangkok Asian Games. Since then, India have bagged a total of 13 medals (one gold, three silvers and nine bronze).
