Chekrovolu Swuro buckles under pressure

Chekrovolu Swuro, a police officer from Nagaland lost a closely contested match against American archer, Jennifer Nichols in the Women’s individual archery event. After five grueling sets that tested their ability to handle pressure, the match ended in a tie with five points each.

It was decided on a shoot-off where the two archers were given one shot each.

The American put the pressure on Swuro with a nine. The Indian archer couldn’t hold her nerve and lost the shoot-off and the match with an eight, when she needed a 10 to win.

Wind played a big part in the proceedings as both archers struggled to find the target consistently.

Swuro took the first set 27-24 after a slow start from the American. However, Jennifer came back in the second set with a perfect 10 in her first shot and won the set 27-25.

The third set was tied after the two archers hit two 9s and a 7.

Swuro seized the initiative in the fourth set and won it 29-26 with her first 10 of the match.

The momentum went the American’s way in the fifth set, after she shot two consecutive nines and 10. Swuro couldn’t match the score set by the American and lost the set 28-25.
