The first day of Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018 brings to the fray a whole bunch of competitions and a lot of Indian Participation. All in all, the CWG brings with it 13 events on Day 1.

A whole bunch of Indian Athletes get their competition up and running on Day 1 of the Commonwealth Games. Gymnastics and Lawn Bowls are the first events of the day for Indians. In Lawn Bowls, Pinki will take on Jo Edwards of New Zealand in round 1 before facing off against Katherine Rednall of England in Round 2. India also has representation in Pairs, Triples and Fours categories in the same sport.

India also begins their campaign in Hockey, when the Women's team will come face to face with Wales. Other team events include Table tennis team group stage matches for both men and women. in Basketball, the Indian team will come up against Cameroon.

In squash, Dipika Pallikal Karthik and Joshna Chinappa begin their crusade for gold, as do Saurav Ghosal, Harinder Pal Sandhu, Vikram Malhotra. In Badminton, India will come face to face with rivals Pakistan and Sri-Lanka in the mixed team event.

Srihari Natarj, a standout performer from the first Khelo India School Games also makes his CWG debut. He will get his competition going into the 100m backstroke event. He will have to qualify from the heats before heading to the semi-finals. Should he make it through both the rounds, the Finals will take place on Friday at the Optus Aquatic Centre. Other Indian Athletes in swimming include Virdhawal Khade and Sajan Prakash. Both men will represent India in the 50m butterfly event.

In cycling, there are high hopes from Deborah Herold and Aleena Reji. The women are representing the nation in more than one track cycling events on the opening day. India round up the day with participation in Weightlifting and Boxing, events which have proved to be the country's strongest claims to a medal in the past.
