Donald Trump, America's President-elect, has plans to support Los Angeles’ bid to host the Summer Olympic Games in 2024. The event is scheduled to be held during the closing months of Trump’s potential second term as the US President.

As reported in NBC News, a spokeswoman for Los Angeles’ mayor revealed that Trump had indeed expressed his desire to support the city’s bid while in conversation with Mayor Eric Garcetti over a phone call.

Connie Llanos, the spokeswoman, spoke about the future ambitions of the country. She said in a statement, "They had a productive conversation about ways to expand infrastructure investments and opportunities in communities across America.

"And the Mayor stressed the important role that immigrants and immigration reform will play in L.A.'s — and the nation's — long-term success."

Llanos mentioned that the duration of the call was brief and it came only after Garcetti had reached out to the office of the president-elect. Garcetti, himself, was a strong supporter of Hillary Clinton in the Presidential elections and had voiced his opposition towards Trump branding him a "political pyromaniac".

Now that Trump has secured the White House, he can see the potential for bringing back the Olympic Games to America. It has been 14 years since America last hosted the Games when Salt Lake City hosted the winter Olympics in 2002.

Former Salt Lake 2002 head Mitt Romney, who ran for President against Barak Obama in 2012, is a candidate for Secretary of State and has met with Trump this past weekend. However, Reuters have not been able to confirm the report as of now as representatives of Trump have opted to remain silent.

This is the third instance that the California city will be hosting the Olympics if they win the bid of course. The bid is centred around celebrating diversity and was seen as the favourite to win, until Trump’s election.

The highly decisive contest between Clinton and Trump has left America divided. Trump’s policy about immigrants and minorities have also left many people stoked with fear about their future. Just last week, the city’s bid leaders urged the officials of the IOC to shred all doubts regarding the commitment of the United States to its founding principles and strength.

Paris and Budapest are also in the running to host the 2024 Summer Olympics.
