German fans have something to cheer about after their national team snatched a thrilling victory from the clutches of Uruguay by defeating them 3-2 in an entertaining match at Port Elizabeth . The German team bade goodbye to South Africa but these young players will forever remember this event as they showed the whole world what they are capable of . EURO 2012 is next and they need to strengthen their weaknesses in order to clinch their ultimate rophy of winning the European championships and the word cup 2014 .

Uruguay fought and fought hard. The players gave more than 100 % which showed how important this match was for them. If Germany have been a revelation, the Uruguayans have been the surprise package of this tournament . They have played some sturdy soccer to qualify from a tough group and then their dream run just continued inspite of facing some dodgy and stiff opponents. Led by their inspirational playmaker and striker Diego Forlan , they played some good football and managed to give the strong Dutch line up plenty to worry during the semi final clash .
The match was a fast paced one with Uruguay looking the determined of the two. Germany started nervously collecting two yellow cards in the space of 6 minutes but slowly found their stride. the keeper made mess of A strong goalbound shot from Schweinsteiger which finally came in the way of Thomas Muller who coolly slotted the ball past the Uruguay custodian . It seemed Muslera has lost much of his splendid form which propelled the Uruguayans to 3 clean sheets in as many matches in the group stages . The game became lively after the goal and box top box attack started frequently. A delightful pass from Arevalo Rios in the 28th minute put Cavani in a goalscoring position and he calmly pushed the ball past the reserve keeper Jorg Butt .
The second half started on a frantic note and Uruguay made full use of the lack of focus from the German players when Forlan struck a superb volley past the keeper to hand over the lead to Uruguay and become the joint top scorer at the world cup . The Germans started to wake up from their slumber and started creating chances. Crosses started flying into the Uruguayan box and a delightful cross from the right flank from Jerome Boating was headed into the net by Marcell Jansen who had troubled the Uruguayan defense all night . With the coming of Kiessling in place of the ineffective Cacao , the Germans started pushing for a win . However in the 82nd minute, the Uruguayan defense made a mess of clearing the ball after Ozil put the ball right in front of goal through an ensuing corner and Khedira latched onto a flying ball and headed home to give the lead back to the germans .
The match was not yet over . A freekick in the last minute of the stoppage time right in front of goal gave rise to an exciting finish to the match . However , Diego Forlan was just able to hit the bar which ensured that the Germans would be receiving the bronze medal . A not so befitting end to probably the best player of the tournament.
