After international footballing bodies convened to try and facilitate a shift of 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar to the winter, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has come out and said that any switch in the dates of the World Cup must “avoid any effect” on the Winter Olympics which are scheduled to be held that year, reports TOI.

FIFA is proposing to move the event to the winter to avoid playing in the searing heat of Qatar which prevails in the summer.

European footballing federations recently met to try and push the event to January, a more favourable month. But, with the Winter Olympics scheduled for February, the IOC wants to avoid any possible clash.

In a statement released on Thursday, the IOC said “we are confident that FIFA will discuss the dates with us so as to coordinate them and avoid any effect on the Winter Games.”

The host city for the 2022 Winter Olympics though is yet to be chosen though. This will happen in the year 2015, as is customary.
