Much has been said about Liverpool’s transfer dealings, and Fabio Borini has emerged as Brendan Rodgers’ top target of the transfer window. So, what can the young Italian striker provide us with?
The Deal
This deal will be more complicated than most, if it comes through. The fact is, that Roma are really reluctant on losing the Italian youngster. 7 million pounds is apparently the fee required to secure the services of Fabio Borini.
Why?
The fact remains that Liverpool FC only have two recognized strikers on the squad. The closest thing the Reds have to a third striker would be Nathan Ecceleston or Steven Gerrard as a second striker, so getting that extra forward in is really essential over the course of the transfer window.
His Strengths
He is the classic finisher. More like a van Persie rather than a Luis Suarez type of player. He is that ‘fox in the box’ that Liverpool have talked about for sometime now. Able to take those headers, with him standing at 1.80m high, and also capable of tapping in. Roma played with a very central approach in the 2011/12 campaign, so I reckon that he can do really well for Liverpool FC, should he make the move to Merseyside.
Managed an impressive total of 10 goals in 20 starts for AS Roma, so I most certainly hope that he can replicate form similar to that if he makes the move.
His Flaws
Well, his decision making outside the box sometimes leaves teammates frustrated, as his dribbling ability is still quite poor, and his passing lacks conviction on some occasions.
My Verdict
Buy him! Realistically, a great prospect for the future, being of just 21 years old. Furthermore, his positioning is a great asset for Liverpool FC to have. Furthermore, the Reds severely need depth and quality in the attacking department. He can be that perfect player to fit the bill. My verdict is to buy him for something in the region of 7-8 million pounds.
