Qinhuangdao (China) – India’s star boxer M.C. Mary Kom (51 kg) has qualified for the London Olympics after her conqueror in the World Championships, Nicola Adams, won her semi-final bout here Friday.

Adams defeated Russia’s Yelena Savelyeva to enter the final of the World Championships.

Mary Kom had to rely on fate after her quarterfinal loss to England’s Adams, who needed to beat Savelyeva to make way for the Indian at the mega event in July-August.

The Manipur boxer secured one of the two quotas available from Asia. China’s Ren Cancan had already booked her berth for the London Games. North Korea’s Hye Kim was also in the race for an Olympic spot.

“I was not tense before today’s bout. There was no point in worrying about something that was not in my hands. I only thought about god. God has seen my struggle and I knew my hard work would not go waste just for one loss,” said Mary Kom.

Women’s boxing will make its Olympic debut in London.
