Lausanne, June 9 (IANS) The International Olympic Committee (IOC) executive board has approved the evaluation criteria for Tokyo 2020 while also suggesting additional events to the Olympic programme.

A list of 35 criteria, derived from an original set of 74 criteria that were approved by the IOC session in 2011 and used to evaluate the 2020 sports program in 2013, has been developed to support the EB in making its recommendation and the IOC Session in making its decision, Xinhua reported on Monday.

It will also serve as a guide for the Organising Committees for Olympic Games (OCOGs).

With the approval of Olympic Agenda 2020 at the end of last year in Monaco, OCOGs have been allowed to make a proposal for the inclusion of one or more additional events on programme.

Last month, Tokyo organisers opened the application process for adding events to the 2020 Olympic Games program, which will be proposed to the IOC by September 30 and finally decided by the 129th IOC session in Rio in August 2016.
