I was very happy with the world Cup squad. Only one name came out of the blue,” Piyush Chawla”. I was wondering with so much talent like Ojha and Mishra why was he even being considered? He has never played a match in India nor has he ever delivered for India. Well it’s time to give Chawla his due.He took four wickets against Australia giving away only 31 runs. He helped India pull victory from the jaws of defeat. He spun the ball well and maintained a strict line and managed to take the game out of Australia’s reach.
Chawla showed that he has been working on his bowling especially on the leg break delivery. Albeit a performance likes this is not enough justification for his inclusion. Chawla has been included in the squad after a three year break; he appears to have improved in this phase.
As India was defending a very small total they had to attack. Well Dhoni knew that the only way he could build pressure on the Aussies was by bringing in various spinners. Along with Chawla, Bhajji ,Ashwin and Yuvi also maintained the pressure on the Aussies.

Chawla bowled extremely well to Ponting. Ponting also said post match “That this is probably the best I’ve seen him bowl,” Ponting said in praise of Chawla. “He spun the ball a bit more tonight. His control was pretty good. He along with the other spinners did a good job and some of our new batsmen found it difficult. You can see that from the low scores in the middle order as it was hard to start against that spin bowling tonight.”
Well so it was pretty much the bowlers who saved the day. The batting performance of India was dismal .The only two players who batted well were Virender Sehwag and Yusuf Pathan. Yusuf could have stuck around for a while more but he got too impatient. It’s better not talk about Yuvraj Singh’s batting performance. He has been horrible on the field even R Ashwin pulled of a better batting performance than him.
Well overall a good performance by India. Let’s hope India continue this form going into the World Cup
