Sanath Jayasuriya to be present at the closing ceremony of Udghosh 2015

Action from the IIT Kanpur basketball court

Every year, during this sporting season, IIT Kanpur organizes Udghosh, an inter-collegiate sports festival that is the largest of its kind in India. The event welcomed nearly 2000 participants all over India in 2014, and is expecting a footfall count twice that number this year.

More importantly, this event provides a great platform to provide exposure to upcoming talent all over the country. This year, Udghosh will be organized from 1-4 October 2015.

The major events include outdoor events such as Cricket, Football, Basketball, Lawn Tennis, Hockey, Athletics, Kho-Kho etc. as well as indoor events such as Table Tennis, Chess, Carom, Squash, Power Lifting, Weightlifting, and Badminton among others. A Sports Quiz is also organized during the 4-day extravaganza.

The USP of the fest is that while there are other complementary activities being conducted for the casual visitors, the underlying theme of the fest is purely based on the idea of promoting various sports in the country. This is highlighted from the amount of coverage that the major sporting events garner during the fest.

It is an extraordinary platform for young college-going sportspersons to show their talents on a national platform. One of the major issues with sportspersons at this nascent stage is the lack of recognition and encouragement from various quarters. Udghosh helps fill this void by providing ample recognition to each and every sportsperson participating in the fest.

Udghosh has always given top priority to inculcate sporting greatness among students. To encourage students to push their limits, eminent personalities like Dhanraj Pillai, Piyush Chawla, RP Singh, and Ashwini Ponnappa among others.

1996 World Cup winner Sanath Jayasuriya will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the tournament

This year, Udghosh has gone one step further and has turned international, by welcoming one of the most feared opening batsmen of all times and also one of the most respected cricketers in the world, Mr. Sanath Jayasuriya, as our Chief Guest at the closing ceremony of Udghosh'15. This embodies the “Play Hard, Party Harder” spirit of Udghosh, IIT Kanpur.

This year, Udghosh is returning to be a bigger, better sporting extravaganza with enormous reach and prizes. The scale at which the event is being organized has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few years. So if you think you have what it takes to reach the top of the sporting pyramid, then attending this event should be a no-brainer for you. Mayhem For Victory!
