Serena's Gangster dance, Andy Murray's Olympic Medal Dogs - Tennis tidbits of the week

As always, we are back with our weekly installment of tennis gossip, tidbits and other off-court news.

Andy Murray‘s Olympic Medal Dogs – So we all know that Andy Murray had a fantastic week in London after his heartbreaking loss in the final of Wimbledon. After his accomplishment, his girlfriend Kim Sears posted a picture of her dogs Maggie May wearing gold and the other one Rusty wearing a silver along with the comments “Here we go folks… Just checking to make sure Rusty definitely has the silver, obviously.”

Royal Guests in cheap seats – It is always a delight to watch Royalty at Center Court in Wimbledon. During the Olympics, Prince William and wife Kate Middleton visited Andy Murray’s semifinal match against Nicolas Almagro. They avoided the Royal Box, though, and sat near the crowd in seats which were priced only around $120. And as always, critics and designers were raving about Kate Middleton’s outfit.

Dream match turns out to be a no-contest – Statistics say that before the Women’s singles finals in London, Sharapova had won the 32 of her last 35 matches and Serena Williams 33 of her last 34. So the final was obviously an encounter to look out for. However, the final scoreline read 6-0, 6-1 – one of the biggest defeats of Sharapova’s career. With this medal, Serena completed her career Golden Slam, a record matched only by three other players – Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi and Rafael Nadal.

Serena after the match commented on her monumental achievement, “I’ve won everything. Now I can go to Disney World!” Heh!

Serena Williams’ gangster dance – And of course, how can we go through our tidbits section without Serena Williams? The Olympic singles gold medalist, after winning the final, went on and performed a gangster dance which is more commonly termed as “crip walk”. She later said that it was not intentional and acknowledged that it was inappropriate.

“It just happened. I was so excited that it just came out,” she said, laughing. “I guess I’m good at it!”

Asked about her critics, Williams responded, “I don’t care. That’s the least of my worries … I’m so excited I was able to do the dance. I’m glad I did it!”

Roger Federer is satisfied with his silver medal – Federer was just one match away from a career Golden Slam when he lost the match against Andy Murray.

The Three Medal Winners

However, he is supposedly content with his performance. He was quoted saying -

“I am very, very proud honestly to have won a silver. I had a very emotional tournament from start to finish. I could have lost in the first round against Falla. Same thing obviously with Del Potro. So I feel very, very happy.”

He does indeed look very happy with his silver. Well, then again Roger, we have Rio 2016!
