To decide the sports capital of India, we will look on to the sports that are played continuously that is each and every year.Let us see whether it is a metro or a two-tier city.

First, let us start with the most viewed sport in our country - CRICKET.

Cricket has a nation – wide popularity in our country, major metros of our countries has provided some wonderful talents in this sport like our Sachin from Mumbai to Dravid from Bangalore to Sehwag from Delhi. All the cities have provided equally in this case, so to decide we will move on to most watched tournament in the country – IPL. In this case there is no doubt indeed to select the best club, it is none other than the roaring lions, the Chennai Super Kings, they had not only been the successful club in the country, they had made the country proud by winning the Champions League. So, CHENNAI wins in this case.

Next, let us move on to the rising sport in India – FOOTBALL.

Usually our heart beats only for Premier League clubs or La Liga clubs, but now we had shown some passion for our I-League clubs and our National Football Team. To choose the best city in football, the I-League is enough to decide. The city of Kolkata has the largest network of football fans for all their I-League clubs and our National team. But in competition, comes the city from the North-East, none other than Shillong, where the fans make the stadium house full each and every week. But the big crowd of KOLKATA wins the game in case of football.

Next, comes our national sport – FIELD HOCKEY

Hockey is gaining wide popularity in our country, with our men’s team qualifying for the Olympics, it is not a sport less talked off and the inaugural edition of the World Hockey Series is giving a big boost for hockey in our country. With the state of Punjab and UP providing some heroes for our country, but the Major Dhyan Chand stadium which hosted the first Asian games and 2010 Men’s Hockey World Cup will win it for DELHI.

Now , last but not the least, the third most viewed sport in India - TENNIS

The one and only ATP World Tour event in the country, it is none other than the Chennai Open. With the participation of some of the top ten players, the Chennai Open is turning out to be one of the best in the world. And with players like Mahesh Bhupathi and Vijay Amritraj coming from the home city and another legend Leander Paes did his schooling and was trained in the city, makes CHENNAI a dominance force in the field of Tennis.

The Chess world champion Viswanathan Anand, India’s No.1 Squash player Dipika Pallikal, Table Tennis current National Champion Sharath Kamal all these legends hail from the city of Chennai.

So, the educational and health capital of the country is now also the SPORTS CAPITAL OF INDIA.
