With Athlos 2014 just one day away, the heat of the event is building up in the XIMB campus. The home team is practicing hard because a lot is at stake. The sixth edition of Athlos is tougher with participation from some of the best B-school teams across the country. Here are the top teams sports lovers will like to follow during Athlos:
Team XIMB: The home team will definitely receive a lot of support from the home crowd which will be advantageous for them. With consistent hard work and training throughout the year, Team XIMB is a strong contender in football, basketball, throwball, badminton and table tennis. XIMB boasts of a strong lineup for cricket as well. There are also some exciting talents in individual sports like track and field events, carrom and chess who are big title contenders. It will be exciting to watch Team XIMB on the field.
Team XLRI: Being part of the Xavier family, XLRI also places great emphasis on sports. It has a history of sending strong contingents to Athlos. XLRI is known for its prowess in football. Historical performances suggest that XLRI will be the team to beat in volleyball, football, badminton, table tennis and basketball. Stiff competition is expected in individual games like chess and athletics.
Team IIMC: IIM Calcutta, another sporting power house among the B Schools of east zone, will send a competitive team for Athlos 2014. With a considerable number of wins in the past, IIMC are tough competitors in volleyball in both men’s and women’s categories. table tennis, cricket and chess are some other sports where other colleges have to be wary of the IIMC competition.
Team VGSOM: VGSOM, IIT Kharagpur is a new entrant in the Athlos arena. It is expected to give tough competitions to all the teams raising the standard of the game in the league. If past records are anything to go by, VGSOM is expected to give solid competition in cricket, lawn tennis, volleyball, throwball and badminton.
Team XIMB Alumni: The enthusiastic participation from the Alumni of XIMB gives a unique flavour to Athlos each year. Even after joining the demanding corporate world, they keep themselves fit to be able to participate in this annual sports festival at XIMB. They have the potential to bag several medals in athletics. Basketball, volleyball and football are some other sports in which current students will be at the receiving end of the strong resistance by the Alumni team.
