Video: Jacques Rogge discusses 2020 Olympics bids

Istanbul, Madrid and Tokyo make their presentations to host the 2020 Olympics to the IOC in Lausanne on Wednesday, and there can only be one winner.

Jacques Rogge, IOC President“The Evaluation Commission said that each one of the three cities could stage a perfect Games but more important that each one of the three has put the athletes at the centre of their preoccupation, the centre of their care and for me this is very important because we (the IOC) organise Games for the athletes.”

“It’s a very important meeting because it is a meeting where the IOC members ask very precise questions to the big cities, go in depth in different files and get the necessary feedback. But also for the big cities it is important to evaluate their presentation and to find unity for the final decision.”

“It’s important because it lets the members go into the detail of things. The formal presentation on the day of the vote is not aimed only at the 115 members of the IOC, but it’s also a message of the public opinion of the country concerned and I say the same public opinion – since the candidatures are broadcast at the moment there. But in the technical meeting that we have organised in Lausanne, the member could ask questions that could not perhaps be asked in a public session, in the presence of all the invited which will be a lot more technical and a lot more precise.”
