To say that India had a disappointing Rio Olympics 2016 would be an understatement. For a contingent of 118 athletes to return home with a mere two medals was a clear reflection of the opportunity missed by the athletes and already, talk about the measures needed to ensure such a result isn’t repeated in the future, have started to do the rounds.

However, despite that lacklustre showing, every athlete deserves a pat on the back for the effort put in by them to become Olympians and represent India on the big stage. And this video released by Sony LIV celebrates the Indian athletes, who have seen many ups and downs in their quest to become Olympic competitors.

The video talks about how the athletes aren’t losers; had that been the case, they would have lost much earlier due to lack of facilities and sparse crowds at venues.

It further adds that the athletes have fought against all odds and come out triumphant. The video is a salute to every Indian athlete who has forged his or her way through various roadblocks and made it to the Olympic Games in Rio.

It’s no doubt been a tough two weeks for not just the athletes in Brazil, but for all the fans as well back home, who have been rooting and cheering for them all the way. The supporters had to wait for more than 10 days to get their big moment, when Sakshi Malik won the country’s first ever medal in Women’s Freestyle wrestling. And then a couple of days later, they rejoiced further when PV Sindhu clinched the silver medal in Women’s Singles badminton.

While the number was just two this time around, they would all hope that come Tokyo 2020, that number rises exponentially and meets everybody’s expectations.
