World University Games: Indian shooters win 2 medals on second day

Korea led the medal standings for the second straight day at the 2015 Gwangju Universiade, on Tuesday. The host country’s expectations are high for a top-ten finish. On Tuesday, Korea added 14 medals to its medal tally increasing it to 40 and was followed by Japan and USA. Korea, leading the medal tally won 9 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals on Tuesday.

Whereas Japan maintained its position at number two with the total of 43 medals, which comprised 13 medals each in gold and silver category and 17 in the bronze. Meanwhile USA advanced to the third spot in the rankings, replacing China which slipped to fourth position with overall 26 medals. USA’s final medal tally on day 6th remained 29 with 12 gold, 8 silver and 9 bronze medals. 

India increased its medal tally to 2 with 1 each in silver and bronze. On Tuesday India won silver in archery mixed compound team. The Universiade is organised by International University Sports Federation (FISU) which is open to athletes between the ages of 17 to 28. Around 13000 athletes from 144 countries will compete for 272 gold medals in 21 sports at 38 venues.

Indian viewers can view these games on DD Sports as the channel is broadcasting LIVE telecast of these 12 days sports extravaganza event from 3-14 July. The 12 day sports telecast will include live action from ground zero, commentary from the scene of action and analysis and discussion by panel of experts from Delhi’s studio.
