An SGP is an abbreviation for a same game parlay, and as its name implies, it is a combination of bets from the same match played together. Many sportsbooks offer premade game parlays or have tools that assist users in building one.

Examples of SGP in Betting

Let’s say that you bet on an SGP offered for Monday Night Football between the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers. It has four legs, centered around Cooper Kupp and the Rams' offense.

• Rams Moneyline: the Rams must win the game.

• Rams over 24.5 points: the Rams must score at least 25 points.

• Cooper Kupp over 97.5 receiving yards: Cooper Kupp has to get at least 98 yards receiving.

• Cooper Kupp over 0.5 touchdowns: Cooper Kupp must also score at least once, in any way except a passing touchdown thrown by Kupp.

If all of those things happen, your parlay is successful and you win money. If everything happens except Cooper Kupp scoring a touchdown, the parlay will lose. If the odds for that parlay were +2500, a $5 bet would net you $125.00. If you bet one each of those individually, the payout would be worse and you would have to place a stake for each leg.

Calculation of SGP Odds in Betting

The odds of your SGP are dependent on two things, the number of legs and the odds of each leg as an individual wager. Each sportsbook varies slightly in how they calculate the total odds, even for the same parlays. One sportsbook may calculate the odds at +350 while another will only have it at +335, even with every leg being the same with the same odds.

When determining the odds of the same game parlay, sportsbooks consider what the odds are for every single leg winning. Another way to think of it is the sportsbook setting odds for the parlay rather than just combining the individual odds. The odds are usually enticing because winning wagers with multiple parts is difficult, even if some of the bets seem like a sure thing.

Each same game parlay is different, so the different parts making them up make the real odds of winning each unique. One leg may be a prayer, while another is a lock.

Assuming each leg has -110 odds, which is roughly considered the same likelihood as a count toss, we can calculate the odds of winning an SGP depending on the number of legs. If each leg at -110 odds has the same chance of being right, here’s what the real odds would look like for winning for each parlay size.

• Two legs: 3 to 1 odds

• Three legs: 7 to 1 odds

• Four legs: 15 to 1 odds

• Five legs: 31 to 1 odds

• Six legs: 63 to 1 odds

• Seven legs: 127 to 1 odds

• Eight legs: 255 to 1 odds

• Nine legs: 511 to 1 odds

• Ten legs: 1,023 to 1 odds

• Eleven legs: 2,047 to 1 odds

• Twelve legs: 4,095 to 1 odds

For each leg you add, winning becomes roughly twice as difficult. Four and five legs are extremely difficult, and exceeding that many poses a monster challenge for success. Even when each bet has been researched thoroughly and seems like a sure thing, games don’t unfold the way the world expects them to routinely.

Even for the best-made SGP, a win will require some breaks in your favor. Double-digit legged parlays are possible, but realistically, try to keep them much smaller.

SGP in Betting: How Much Can You Make

The amount of money you make from an SGP depends on the odds of the parlay and the amount of money that you wager. If you’re looking for a long-term projection, it depends on how often you win them and what you’re staking. Assuming you put $5 down on every SGP you play, this is how it would payout depending on the odds.

Of course, as the odds go up the payout does, but so does the difficulty of winning with your SGP.

Can the Chances of Winning SGP in Betting be Improved?

If you’re looking for a failproof way of winning a same game parlay, there is none. Each one comes with risks and they are difficult to find consistent success with. Still, there are ways to make your chances of success slightly better.

• Fewer Legs: Adding legs just adds more ways that your SGP can go sideways and end up failing. Increasing the risk often ends up backfiring, especially as the number of legs climbs into double-digits. Getting three or four legs correct is difficult enough, and still pays out nicely.

• Finding Advantageous Lines: Sportsbooks have mastered setting lines that are competitive while also drawing action for both sides. However, sometimes they are noticeably off. If you see odds that look great for your same game parlay, don’t be afraid to add them.

Is SGP in Betting a Good Bet?

It depends on what you value. For some bettors, the prospect of making a large profit on a single stake makes same game parlays great bets, even if they don’t win half of them.

However, for those that value winning bets consistently over the potential for a huge payday, they aren’t seen as good bets. They offer an increased risk that could cost them everything. If they make three single bets and win two of them, they’ll probably profit. If the same results unfolded in a same game parlay, they’d come away empty-handed.

If you are fine with taking losses on your bets but winning big, you’ll probably find same game parlays to be great bets. If not, you probably won’t play many.
