Both Sindhu and He Bing Jiao sailed through their respective group stage matches with ease, and will be each other's first big challenge at the Games. The former began her campaign in Paris on July 28, brushing past Maldives' Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq 21-9, 21-6 with ease.
Meanwhile, He Bing Jiao's first outing at the Paris Olympics came on July 27 and yielded similar results, with the Chinese moving past Azerbaijan’s Keisha Fatima Azzahra 21-8, 21-7 without breaking a set.
For their final group stage matches, PV Sindhu and He Bing Jiao were up against Kristin Kuuba and Kirsty Gilmour respectively. The Indian was once again a picture of pure domination, taking down her Estonian opponent 21-5, 21-10.
On the other hand, the Chinese struggled in her opening game against Gilmour, before finally finding her groove. She eventually won the match 24-22, 21-8 after being on court for 45 minutes. Now, Sindhu will yet again clash swords with her long-time Chinese rival in a battle that promises lethal action.
