Indian fencers C.A. Bhavani Devi and Taniksha Khatri failed to grab their Paris Olympics 2024 spots after suffering defeats in the ongoing Asia-Oceania Zonal Olympic Qualifier 2024 on April 28, Sunday, in Dubai.

On April 27, Saturday, Karan Singh also suffered a defeat in the Qualifier final after losing to China’s Chen Shenpeng. India is yet to secure a spot for the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024 in fencing.

Moving into the details of CA Bhavani Devi’s performances in the Qualifiers, she suffered a defeat over Hong Kong China’s Chu Wing Kiu by 12-15 in the women’s sabre semi-final to bow out of the campaign.

Bhavani was leading the six-member Indian contingent in the Qualifiers and she was carrying the hopes of the entire nation to secure a spot in the quadrennial event. Regrettably, she was in disbelief and didn’t shake hands after losing the semi-final.

It’s important to note that Bhavani Devi is the lone fencer from India to make it to the Olympics at the Tokyo Summer Games 2020. It would be interesting to see if any other fencer from India makes the cut for the upcoming event in Paris.

On the other hand, Taniksha Khatri secured her spot in the women’s epee final, but had to bow out of the campaign after losing narrowly to Singapore’s Kiria Tikanah by 13-15 and also received a red card at the end.
