Dutee Chand, hailing from Jajpur in Odisha, is a professional sprinter representing India. Dutee did not enjoy a great 2020 Tokyo Olympics campaign. The 28-year-old bowed out of the tournament following her dismal performance in the women’s 200m event at the Olympic Stadium.

She exited early after finishing seventh and last, clocking 23.85 seconds in her first run. Moreover, her performance in the 200m event in Tokyo placed her at 38th place in the overall standings.

Before her 200m exit, the Indian sprinter had crashed out of the 100m event of the 2020 Games.

She exited after finishing seventh in her heats with a timing of 11.54 seconds, an event featuring formidable two-time Olympic champion, Jamaica's Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

However, the world championship title was ultimately claimed by Elaine Thompson-Herah of Jamaica.

A look at Dutee Chand's other achievements for India

Dutee Chand scripted a record in 2016 at the Rio Olympic Games by becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal in the 100m race at a global competition.

She also became the third Indian woman to take part in the women's 100 meters event, recording a time of 11.69 seconds, despite failing to advance beyond the heats.

It's worth mentioning that Dutee Chand's personal best in the 200m is 23.00 seconds, which she achieved at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. She clinched the silver medal, marking India's first medal in the event since 1998.

Additionally, in 2019, she created history as the first Indian sprinter to secure gold at the Universiade, clocking 11.32 seconds in the 100m race. Moreover, she currently holds the distinction of national champion in the 100m event.

She announced her decision to retire during the 2022 Khelo India University Games.
