A total of 14 members from the Indian contingent are set to participate in the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships 2024, scheduled to take place on April 21, Sunday, in Antalya, Turkiye.
Notably, the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships 2024 is an Olympic qualifying event for the Paris Olympics 2024. Indian race walkers will compete across three categories - men’s and women’s 20km race walk, and marathon race walk mixed relay.
Priyanka Goswami/Akshdeep Singh and Munita Prajapati/Paramjeet Singh are all set to represent Team India in the mixed relay event. According to the format, the athletes will have to cover the full marathon distance of 42.195 km.
An initial 12.195km will be covered by a male and then the next 10km by a female. Another 10km for a man and the woman cover the final 10km to the finish line.
The marathon race walk mixed relay event is a qualifying event for the mega event in Paris and the top 22 teams in this event will stand a chance to qualify for the forthcoming Summer Games.
It’s important to note that a total of eight Indian athletes have already qualified for Paris Olympics 2024.
Akshdeep Singh, Vikash Singh, Paramjeet Singh, Suraj Panwar, Servin Sebastian, Arshpreet Singh, and Ram Baboo have breached the qualifying mark in the men’s 20km race walk. Similarly, Priyanka Goswami went past the qualifying mark in the women’s 20km race walk
Suraj Panwar, Ram Baboo, Vikash Singh, Servin Sebastian, and Arshpreet Singh are part of the men’s team 20km race walk while Manju Rani, Payal, Pooja Kumawat, Mokavi Muthurathinam, and Ramandeep Kaur are taking part in the women’s 20km race walk.
