Carson Tyler Coach

Born June 9, 2004, Carson Tyler made waves in the American diving community. He became the third American to qualify at the US Olympic trials in both the men's 10m platform and 3m springboard events. He has secured three NCAA Championships as a diver for the Indiana Hoosiers.

Carson Tyler is coached by Drew Johansen, an American diving coach. He is highly respected for his contribution to the United States diving squad as a coach in the Olympics in 2012 London, Rio in 2016, and Tokyo in 2020. He is the head diving coach at Indiana University at the moment.

Carson Tyler's Previous Coach

Carson Tyler was previously coached by John Fox, the head diving coach at Auburn University since June 2023. Fox was formerly head coach and CFO of Moss Farms Diving Club in Georgia and brings a wealth of experience. He has coached over 30 Division I divers which include four NCAA All-Americans and reigning Platform Champion Carson Tyler. His accolades include the 2021 USPOC Diving Development Coach of the Year and the Moose Moss Diving Coach of the Year Award in 2017. Fox is a University of Kentucky graduate with advanced degrees from UCF and is married to his wife, Tiffany. They have two kids, Charlee Rae and Liam.

Drew Johansen's Wife

Drew Johansen has a wife named Jenny. She competed at the Olympics twice in the diving category. She has also served as the head diving coach at the University of North Carolina.

Drew Johansen's Coaching Career

Drew Johansen was named Indiana University's third diving coach on April 29, 2013. Johansen has been recognized as CSCAA Diving Coach of the Year three times and Big Ten Diving Coach of the Year five times. In the 2022-23 season, Johansen was honored as the CSCAA Men’s Diving Coach of the Year and Big Ten Men’s Diving Coach of the Year after a historic performance by his team at the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships. IU divers contributed 104 points and achieved five medals and two national titles with Andrew Capobianco and Carson Tyler leading the charge. Johansen's 2021-22 season earned him the CSCAA Women’s Diving Coach of the Year and Big Ten Women’s Diving Coach of the Year. Sophomore Tarrin Gilliland was named CSCAA and Big Ten Diver of the Year after securing multiple national and conference titles. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in the 2020-21 season, IU diving thrived with Andrew Capobianco and freshman Tarrin Gilliland winning individual national championships. Johansen led Team USA to three medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

In the 2019-20 season seasons, Johansen’s guidance helped the IU divers achieve Olympic Trial marks and strong conference performances. The 2018-19 season witnessed IU winning both men's and women's Big Ten team titles with James Connor and Jessica Parratto excelling under Johansen’s guidance. Johansen's tenure at IU began with notable success which included the 2015-16 season where he coached Olympians Jessica Parratto, Michael Hixon, and Amy Cozad. His first few years at IU saw consistent All-America honors and conference championships. Before Indiana, Johansen's success at Duke University included coaching Olympians and multiple NCAA champions. His experience extends to international coaching which includes head coach roles for the US national team at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games.

• Drew Johansen has a recognized as CSCAA Diving Coach of the Year three times since joining Indiana University.

• Drew Johansen served as the head coach for the U.S. diving team at the 2012 London Olympics where his divers secured a total of four medals.

• Drew Johansen has led teams at Duke University to multiple NCAA Zone Championships.

• Drew Johansen was named head coach of the U.S. diving team for the World Championships in 2015.

• Drew Johansen has been awarded the USA Diving Award of Excellence and named USA Diving Coach of the Year for his contributions to diving coaching.

• Drew Johansen served as the head diving coach for the U.S. Olympic teams in 2012 (London), 2016 (Rio de Janeiro), and 2021 (Tokyo), leading athletes to achieve four medals in 2012 which was the best performance since 1988.

• The U.S. Elite Diving Academy won the U.S. Diving Junior Team title and achieved success in various competitions, including the NCAA Championship, Under Johansen’s coaching.

• Drew Johansen founded the U.S. Elite Diving Academy and turned it into one of the largest and most successful diving programs in the nation.
