Camille Lacourt won France’s third gold medal of the world swimming championships when he won the men’s 50 metres backstroke.

The fastest swimmer of the year in the discipline, who had taken silver in the 100m earlier in the week, lived up to his billing as pre-race favourite as he was able to make up ground in the last 20m to finish just ahead of his countryman Jeremy Stravius in a time of 24.42 Sunday, reports Xinhua.

Staivius shared silver with 100m champion Matt Grevers as both clocked the same time of 24.58.
