The country was most dominant in the years 1959 and 1963, when American swimmers brought home every single gold medal up for grabs, leaving other countries to fight it out for the second and third places.

As of 2019, the United States sits atop the all-time medal tally for swimming at the Games with 702 medals, of which 351 are gold. Of the rest, 252 are silver and 139 are bronze medals.
